SRP provides electricity to more than 1 million retail customers in a 2,900-square-mile service area that spans three Arizona counties, including most of the metropolitan Phoenix area (known as the Valley).
Summary
Regularly provides engineering services in an engineering discipline, as a project/program leader, or in an area of technical specialty, in a technically sound, safe, timely, and cost effective manner to enable SRP to realize its goals and objectives for providing water and energy related services.
Responsibilities
- Serves as a subject matter expert on the planning and engineering of the distribution system for modernization, growth, electric vehicles, distributed energy resources, aging infrastructure, automation and enhanced customer services. - Thought leader regarding the modernization of the electric grid and the relationship between the modern grid and the customers it serves. - Acts as the lead in the overall planning of SRP's distribution system. This includes initiating stages of the planning process, reviewing and validating the results of analysis, authoring reports and presenting the outcome to stakeholders and executive management. - Leads research with universities and other research partners on technologies or processes that improve grid performance in a rapidly changing industry environment. Authors papers and presents findings internally to executives and at national industry conferences. - Tracks latest industry developments on emerging technologies and processes related to grid modernization and provides strategic guidance to executive management on SRP's modernization efforts. - Utilizes distribution system modeling and analytic techniques to plan for the customer's adoption of technology while maintaining the integrity of the grid and then translating the results into distribution system plans, roadmaps, standards, and processes. - Performs as an engineering project manager on special projects/programs which are large or have many complex features. - Provides engineering leadership when administering and reviewing work performed by consultants and others. - Serves on industry committees and task forces as a representative of SRP. - Active leadership role in promoting safety. - Supervises and oversees the work of less senior staff. - The job functions described above require an individual with a high level of technical expertise, the ability to evolve to a rapidly changing industry environment, a detailed knowledge of electric systems, and the ability to effectively communicate with a variety of audiences including customers, management, legislators, industry experts and students. These job functions necessitate a combination of interpersonal skills, education and experience at the principal level. - Represents SRP in legal and regulatory matters or proceedings of technical nature when required.
Ideal Candidate
**Education:** * Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited curriculum * Additional specialty training (MS Engineering, MBA, or 18 college semester hours or CEUs in an engineering related field) * State Professional Engineering Registration * Additional specialty training (18 college semester hours or CEUs) **Experience** * Ten (10) years full time professional experience actively engaged in engineering practice. * Must have demonstrated the successful accomplishment of work as defined for this position. * Contributed to the authoring, publishing and/or presenting of internal or external technical papers. **Certifications or Testing Required** * Must possess the appropriate valid Arizona driver’s license. **Additional Information** * If internal, Candidates must attain a Valued Contributor or better rating on their annual performance review for the last three years. * Responsible for budgets, schedules, and management of resources for programs and projects of major scope. * Demonstrated network of internal and external contacts including customers, outside agencies, and suppliers of significant equipment and services. * Occasional travel to suppliers' facilities, industry functions, and SRP facilities. * Ability to work effectively with various organizations within SRP. * Ability to use engineering tools required for the job. Must have a valid driver's license.
