SRP provides electricity to more than 1 million retail customers in a 2,900-square-mile service area that spans three Arizona counties, including most of the metropolitan Phoenix area (known as the Valley).
Summary
The individual in this position serves as SRP’s primary subject matter expert in substation engineering. This individual is responsible for defining SRP’s substation standards, tracking new technologies and configurations, and leading studies related to substation reliability, performance, and cost.
Responsibilities
**Specific Job Duties:** - Serves as a subject matter expert both internally and externally and as a key point of contact for questions related to substation design, construction, and maintenance. - Engages in industry groups, technical committees, and standards organizations, to monitor new technology and ensure that SRP keeps pace with industry standards and best practices. - Defines and maintains SRP's engineering standards for the design, construction, and maintenance of substations. - Reviews and responds to requests for changes to substation standards. - Leads studies related to substation reliability, performance, and cost. **Other General Duties:** - Demonstrates substantive thought leadership to further new ideas, products, services, and/or business processes to increase efficiency, effectiveness, and/or customer satisfaction. - Provides engineering leadership on projects and programs of major scope and importance. - Provides technical leadership when administering and reviewing work performed by consultants, outside agencies, and others. - Serves in a leadership role within external organizations and represents SRP's position on issues of importance. - Represents SRP in legal and regulatory matters or proceedings of a technical nature when required. - Serves as a company spokesperson in communicating technical subject matter to the public when required. - Supervises and oversees the work of less senior staff
Ideal Candidate
**Education** * Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited curriculum * Additional specialty training (MS Engineering, MBA, or 36 post-graduate college semester hours or CEU'S) * State Professional Engineering Registration plus additional specialty training (MS Engineering, MBA, or 18 post-graduate college semester hours or CEU'S). **Experience** * 14 years professional experience actively engaged in engineering plus professional recognition. * Must have demonstrated the successful accomplishment of work as defined for this position. * Authored internal and/or external technical papers **Additional Information** * If internal, Candidates must attain a Valued Contributor or better rating on their annual performance review for the last three years. * Responsible for budgets, schedules, and management of resources for programs and projects of major scope. * Demonstrated network of internal and external contacts including customers, outside agencies, and suppliers of significant equipment and services. * Occasional travel to suppliers' facilities, industry functions, and SRP facilities. * Ability to work effectively with various organizations within SRP. * Ability to use engineering tools required for the job. * Must have a valid driver's license. * Ability to work effectively with SRP executive management. **Certifications or Testing Required** * Must possess the appropriate valid Arizona driver’s license.
