We are a community-based, nonprofit utility and one of the nation's largest public power utilities. SRP provides electricity to more than 1 million retail customers in a 2,900-square-mile service area that spans three Arizona counties, including most of the metropolitan Phoenix area (known as the Valley).
Regularly provides engineering services, as a recognized leader and authority in the power utility telecommunications industry. Provides project/program management for organizational projects/programs of major scope and importance with full technical and program responsibility. These functions are fulfilled in a technically sound, safe, timely, and cost effective manner to enable SRP to realize its goals and objectives for providing water and energy related services.
- Performs as an engineering project/program leader/engineer on projects/programs which are large or have many complex features.
- Prepares specifications, evaluates bids, and prepares recommendation materials for management consideration when evaluating large or complex procurements.
- Performs engineering design, analysis, and studies with significant knowledge of power utility telecommunications.
- May prepare and/or conduct written and oral reports and presentations.
- Active leadership role in promoting safety within department.
- Actively develops and trains engineers on technical, project management, and/or best practices related activities. Identifies or creates development opportunities.
- Establishes standards and facilitates Standards Change Processes in the discipline when required.
- Represents SRP in legal and regulatory matters or proceedings of technical nature when required.
- Demonstrates substantive thought leadership to further new ideas, products, services, and/or business processes to increase efficiency, effectiveness, and/or customer satisfaction.
- Demonstrates substantive leadership in organizational change management to foster the success of new business products, services, and/or business processes.
- Plans and develops the scope, approval, and implementation of engineering projects which have an important effect on major programs of the organization.
- Provides full technical leadership when administering and reviewing work performed by consultants, outside agencies, and others.
- Performs as a technical staff consultant and/or advisor with respect to telecommunications in the application of advanced concepts, principles and processes. May be consulted extensively by associates and others with a high degree of reliance placed on the engineer's interpretations and advice.
- When required/requested, serves in a leadership role within external organizations and is a recognized authority in power utility telecommunications.
- Defines strategic direction, opportunities and methods to ensure SRP's vision is realized. Uses advanced knowledge of how the business works to achieve results
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited curriculum
- Additional specialty training (MS Engineering, MBA, or 36 college semester hours or CEUs in an engineering related field)
- State Professional Engineering Registration plus additional specialty training (MS Engineering, MBA, or 18 college semester hours or CEUs in an engineering related field)
Experience
- 16 years professional experience actively engaged in engineering plus professional recognition.
- Must have demonstrated the successful accomplishment of work as defined for this position.
- Authored internal and/or external technical papers.
- Presented on internal and external technical papers.
Additional Information
- If internal, Candidates must attain a Valued Contributor or better rating on their annual performance review for the last three years.
- Responsible for budgets, schedules, and management of resources for programs and projects of major scope.
- Demonstrated network of internal and external contacts including customers, outside agencies, and suppliers of significant equipment and services.
- Occasional travel to suppliers' facilities, industry functions, and SRP facilities.
- Ability to work effectively with various organizations within SRP.
- Ability to use engineering tools required for the job.
- Must have a valid driver's license.
- Ability to work effectively with SRP executive management.
Certifications or Testing Required
- Must possess the appropriate valid Arizona driver’s license.
