Summary
SAIC will be providing systems engineering, research, and development for an Army customer at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland, supporting secure wireless military communications and networking technologies. Successful candidates will play a key role in supporting high-level Army decision making with respect to the warfighters’ ability to communicate on the battlefield. Systems include Army Battlefield Command Systems (ABCS), Joint Tactical Radio Systems (JTRS), and Warfighter Information Network-Tactical (WIN-T). Areas of support include network modeling and simulation for current, legacy and promising communication and networking technologies for Army battlefield systems.
Responsibilities
Develops test plans, coordinates test sites and test events, and manages execution and reporting of test events for a wide range of satellite communications programs in support of new and already fielded Army telecommunications systems, to include new capabilities in Satellite Communications (SATCOM) and wireless technologies for the battlefield, as well as the application of military and Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) capabilities. Configures necessary hardware and operating environments as needed to complete assigned testing. Tracks problems and reports on errors that are identified.
Ideal Candidate
**Required Qualifications:** BS degree in computer science, engineering or math with 10+ years of hands-on experience in military telecommunications environments. Comprehensive technical expertise on IT products, operating systems, software, hardware, systems and networks and specialized environments. Must have experience in writing or assisting in the development of test plans and test procedures. Must manage the defect database under the guidance of senior QA engineers. Demonstrated expertise in SATCOM systems architecture, engineering, design, and analysis as it applies to Wideband, Narrowband, and Protected Satellite systems. Examples of required areas of expertise include, but are not limited to: Radio Frequency (RF) link budget and link margin calculations for both military and commercial SATCOM systems; antenna performance and efficiency analysis; Effective Isotropic Radiated Power, G/T, and link impairment calculations; Earth Terminal architecture and RF systems engineering; satellite architecture and communications performance; operations in degraded communications environments (weather, scintillation, and interference). Familiarity with Wideband Global SATCOM (WGS), Defense Satellite Communications Subsystem (DSCS), MILSTAR, and X-TAR. **Desired Qualifications:** Experience with the Joint SATCOM Engineering Center (JSEC) laboratories, to include expertise in supporting the installation of SATCOM equipment at DoD Teleport, Standardized Tactical Entry Point and Control sites. Familiarity with Internet Protocol (IP) over satellite test environments, including testing and certification of Spread Spectrum Multiple Access (SSMA), Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA), Frequency Division Multiple Access (FDMA), and Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) based transmission systems.
