Summary
The Business Representative( Financial Assurances) will administer and coordinate the execution and implementation of SAG-AFTRA financial assurances contracts, as well as assist and consult with signatory business representatives in the process of evaluating and obtaining financial assurances for theatrical, television, and other projects.
Responsibilities
* Act as liaison between performers, directors, agents, distributor, and production companies. * Research and investigate claims and see them through to resolution. * Assist the legal department with the arbitration process when required. * Obtain and analyze copyright, lien, business entity and motion picture searches as requested by business representatives or by Theatrical/Television Department Managers (“TTDM”) in connection with projects involving financial assurances. * Review and analyze chain-of-title documentation as requested by business representatives in connection with projects or as requested by TTDM. * Identify all secured parties and the priority order of their secured interest in relevant projects, along with assisting business representatives in preparing appropriate interparty and intercreditor agreements. * Prepare detailed reports (1) documenting results of all research conducted involving copyrights, liens, business entities, and chain-of-title, (2) recommending to the business representatives follow-up and appropriate standard financial assurances documentation required, and (3) assisting business representative in obtaining these documents. * Assist business representatives in preparing modified template standard financial assurances documents to adequately represent research results. This may include any documents contained in the financial assurances templates directory available to business representatives. * Consult with Legal Department/Financial Assurances (“Legal/FA”) counsel regarding financial assurance, issues documentation or advice recommended beyond the scope of standard template documents. * May consult with Legal/FA Counsel, or the Theatrical department managers to prepare customized financial assurances documentation. * Prepare training materials for business representatives and departments in consultation with Legal/FA (as appropriate) relating to financial assurances handled by the Theatrical and Television Departments. * Inform TTDM (and appropriate Legal/FA) regarding noted shifts and developments in entertainment industry financing and production practice, corporate structures, and corporate practice which may affect the SAG-AFTRA’s financial assurances efforts and goals. * Consult with TTDM (along with Legal/FA counsel as appropriate) in connection with any other aspects of projects referred to the Legal/FA Department by the Television and Theatrical Departments. * Perform other duties as assigned or as the situation dictates.
Ideal Candidate
* Must have the ability to read, understand and interpret contracts. * Must be customer service oriented with the ability to interact well with members, performers, directors, agents, and staff with tact and diplomacy. * A general understanding of copyright, chain of title, and security interests. * Able to communicate effectively in English, in both verbal and in written form. * Able to type 35 WPM accurately. * Proficient in the use PC applications. * Detail oriented. * Able to organize, prioritize, and coordinate multiple tasks under daily deadlines. * Able to work under pressure. * Hold yourself and others accountable for a high level of performance and integrity. * Superlative interpersonal skills: high degree of patience and tact. Must be able to cultivate respectful, strategic and collaborative relationships with people from diverse backgrounds both internally and externally * Have an understanding and awareness of worker rights impacting SAG-AFTRA members. * Capable of taking direction from more than one supervisor. * Must be able to work in a challenging environment where constructive feedback from others is encouraged * Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance at such level as is determined at SAG-AFTRA’s sole discretion. * Must be available and willing to work extended hours per day or per week, including weekends and holidays, as SAG-AFTRA determines is necessary to meet its business needs * Must be available and willing to travel to such locations and with such frequency as SAG-AFTRA determines is necessary or desirable to meet its business needs * Undergraduate degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience. * Experience working with Chain of Title, Copyright, or security interests preferred * Previous experience working with contracts, preferably union, and/or entertainment contracts preferred or equivalent experience. * Legal experience a plus.
