Summary
This role will provide editorial and administrative support to two Senior Editors (one working remotely from CA) working on an eclectic mix of nonfiction titles including cooking, lifestyle, mind, body, spirit, memoir, and personal transformation. The ideal candidate will be able to independently manage a diverse set of responsibilities including providing editorial feedback to authors, writing copy, managing art logs, evaluating projects, coordinating with other departments throughout the book making process. Excellent organizational and writing skills a must; 2-3 years of book publishing experience preferred.
Responsibilities
General office support to two senior editors * Manage weekly editorial meetings (meeting request, setup—video, agenda, minutes) * Communicating with authors, agents, writers, photographers, foreign publisher, translation sub-agents, rights contacts and other clients * Analyzing book proposals and writing readers reports * Fielding unsolicited submissions * Drafting correspondence * Creating fact sheets, catalog copy, and P&L drafts * Ordering books/office supplies * Mailing packages * Trafficking of internal materials * Submit check requests for author payment * Process T&E expenses * General editorial and sub-rights research
Ideal Candidate
* Bachelor’s degree * At least one year of experience working as an editorial assistant/intern * Excellent verbal/written communication skills * Strong organizational skills and attention to detail * Ability to work as a member of a team * Ability to juggle and prioritize multiple tasks and work independently * A creative thinker who is always on the lookout for new, more efficient ways of doing things
