Summary
The Director oversees the delivery of core library collections and services to the RIT community and represents RIT Libraries within the RIT community and on regional and national Library boards, committees and consortia. The Director serves as a member of the Executive Team of the Wallace Center, setting strategic leadership and direction for the Center and its services. The Director identifies and cultivates external relations and fundraising opportunities in support of the Wallace Center.
Responsibilities
* Provide leadership and strategic direction for RIT Libraries, consisting of the Wallace Library, Cary Graphic Arts Library and the RIT Archives. Oversee the growth and delivery of core library functions and collections to support the diverse curricular and research needs of the RIT community, including RIT’s global campuses. * Serve as a member of the Executive Team of the Wallace Center responsible for the strategic leadership and direction for the Center and its services. Advise the Wallace Center Executive Team on the effective implementation, delivery and integration of library collections and services. * Identify and cultivate external relations and fundraising opportunities with public and private sectors in support of the Wallace Center. In collaboration with RIT’s Office of Development, actively pursue endowment and gift opportunities to fund TWC facilities, resources and services. * Administer, lead and manage the RIT Libraries staff (currently consisting of 39 permanent employees and 100+ student employees) in 7 departments. Establish performance standards and initiatives and support staff development. Establish short and long term library goals. Monitor and measure the progress and effectiveness of those goals. * Provide oversight and effective fiscal management of the RIT Libraries collections and the $2.5+ million resource budget and related operational budgets. Monitor contracts for RIT Libraries resources and services on behalf of RIT. * Aggressively seek, communicate, advocate and implement new solutions in the use of library space and the delivery of library information resources and services to the RIT community. Continuously evaluate and incorporate complex and rapidly evolving information technologies. * Represent RIT Libraries within the RIT community and on regional and national Library boards, committees and consortia. Cultivate and maintain internal and external relationships to foster collaboration and increase the visibility of both RIT Libraries and the Wallace Center, including active participation in RIT’s governance groups.
Ideal Candidate
**Required Minimum Qualifications** * MLS or MIS degree from an ALA-accredited library school or academic credentials appropriate to the leadership of a modern research-intensive library. * Valid driver’s license. * 5 or more years of progressively responsible leadership experience with evidence of effective supervision of diverse staff, including strategic planning and budgeting and fundraising * Demonstrated supervisory skills, leadership and team management skills. * Record of grant writing or demonstrated ability to contribute to the development of external relations and fundraising * Expertise in fiscal management, including budget preparation, allocation, expenditure and preparation of budget projections. * Demonstrated knowledge of library operations, including contemporary library practices, trends, and emerging technologies. * Demonstrated knowledge of assessment and evaluation of library services. * Demonstrated ability to develop and enhance collaborative relationships and partnerships with other libraries and consortia. * Demonstrated strong internal and external communication skills as well as interpersonal skills. * Ability to build teams and effectively lead staff through process changes. * Broad understanding of publishing and preservation models and trends. **Required Minimum Education Level** * MS, MA
