The Welding Engineer in the Materials and Process Engineering department provides technical support for all welding and brazing related activities in-house and at supplier facilities nationally and internationally. The ideal candidate must be proficient in welding and brazing process technology, welding metallurgy, ferrous and nonferrous materials, destructive and nondestructive testing, and process controls. Additional duties/responsibilities include: - Travel nationally and internationally up to 50% annually - Work independently as well as in team environments - Lead six sigma projects focused on process improvements to reduce scrap and rework - Communicate effectively to various internal departments, external suppliers, and all levels of management - Participate in technical design reviews
Ideal Candidate
Required Skills and Experience: - Experience in the welding industry with at least four years of welding engineering experience, specifically in the aerospace industry in metal component fabrication, assembly, and welding/brazing - Strong technical knowledge and proficiency of welding and brazing processes including but not limited to GTAW, GMAW, RSW, EBW, LBW, Furnace Brazing, and Induction Brazing (knowledge in at least three of these areas) - Strong understanding of mechanized and automated welding systems (Orbital GTA welding a plus) - Experience in welding and brazing procedure development and qualification in accordance with American Welding Society specifications and other National Standards - Executing process validation plans and process capability studies - Interpretation of welding and brazing codes and specifications and convey requirements to production, engineering, and management personnel - Experience working with stainless steels, nickel base alloys, titanium alloys, carbon steels, alloy steels, and aluminum alloys (knowledge in at least three of these areas) - Ability to effectively communicate to technical and non-technical teams - Proficient in technical report writing utilizing Microsoft Word, Excel, and other software tools - Experience in radiographic film interpretation of welds and dye penetrant inspection - The ability to obtain a Secret DoD security clearance - Desired Skills and Experience: - Working knowledge and understanding of automated welding systems including development, qualification, programming, controls, and troubleshooting - Practical fusion welding experience including Electron Beam and Laser Welding - Experience with six sigma tools to determine root cause and corrective actions to resolve process problems using PFMEA (Process Failure Modes and Effects Analysis) - Experience in welder/welding operator and brazer/brazing operator qualifications in accordance with American Welding Society specifications - Certifications such as AWS CWI, SCWI, and ASNT Level II Visual Testing - Metallurgical laboratory skills - Practical resistance welding experience - Experience working with weld specifications AWS D17.1, AWS D17.2, AWS C3.5, AWS C3.6 and AMS 2681 Required Education: - Bachelor of Science in Welding Engineering from an ABET accredited program, OR a Bachelor of Science in Engineering with the required Welding experience AND an American Welding Society Certified Welding Inspector certification will be considered. This position requires the eligibility to obtain a security clearance. Non-US citizens may not be eligible to obtain a security clearance. The Defense Industrial Security Clearance Office (DISCO), an agency of the Department of Defense, handles and adjudicates the security clearance process. Security clearance factors include, but are not limited to, allegiance to the US, foreign influence, foreign preference, criminal conduct, security violations and drug involvement. Employment is contingent on other factors, including, but not limited to, background checks and drug screens.

This position can be Salary Grade E03 or Salary Grade E04 based upon the applicant's qualifications as they relate to the skills, leadership, experience and responsibility requirements of the position.
