Summary
The Project Engineer will be responsible for sustaining engineering and new product development for the Consumer Products SBU – a large percentage of time will be spent on packaging related and cost reduction projects. This will involve product conceptualization, design, prototyping, lab testing, engineering development, production implementation, and post launch support of new and improved products. In addition, the candidate will be required to function as both a project manager and design engineer simultaneously.
Responsibilities
The candidate must be able to lead cross functional teams across the organization with all aspects of engineering support for packaging upgrades and cost reduction to optimize existing product lines. Depending on the complexity, the candidate will have responsibility for multiple projects. The candidate must have strong communication skills in order to communicate effectively to all levels of the organization including senior leadership and cross functional stake holders. A successful candidate will be a self starter, possess strong project management skills, and be responsible for project budgets, product quality, and on-time completion. The candidate is expected to be able to work under pressure in a fast paced cross-functional team environment.
Ideal Candidate
**Minimum Qualifications:** * BS degree in Mechanical Engineering * Excellent verbal and written communication skills * Excellent theoretical and practical knowledge of design and mechanical engineering concepts. * 5-7 years of design and project management showing increasing levels of responsibility * 5-7 years or more experience in low cost, high volume, low defect products. * Investigation of quality problems to determine root cause and implement corrective action * Ability to work with a team of people under pressure in a fast paced environment. * Proven success in product development using stage gate methodology or sustaining as a leader of a cross-functional team (manufacturing, engineering, quality, sales and marketing) * Experience with 3D CAD (SolidWorks or equivalent) * Experience with managing project schedules through Microsoft Project * Acceptance of light to moderate travel, as needed **Desired Qualifications:** * Experience in injection molded plastic component design and tool qualification * Experience with consumer package design is strongly desired * Direct supervisory experience managing engineering staff * Experience with irrigation products or related industry
