Summary
R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company is seeking a Senior Scientist to work in a team environment managing internal analytical testing requirements in support of manufacturing and regulatory compliance while ensuring lab capacity for maintaining strong R&D support. Additionally, the scientist will work with external laboratories assessing capabilities to meet contract testing requirements. This will require monitoring internal and external laboratories against defined metrics and conducting audits against standards (ISO, GMP, and/or GLP). The scientist must be capable of executing projects to ensure lab testing capabilities are acquired and/or maintained. This individual must be able to perform in a highly diverse, multi-functional environment and communicate effectively to deliver against goals. In addition, the scientist must be able to effectively collaborate with Manufacturing, R&D, Innovations, Quality, and Scientifc and Regulatory Affairs as well as with outside vendors to solve problems, provide insight and develop scientific measures to ensure analytical testing requirements for regulatory reporting as well as a fast paced R&D are met.
Responsibilities
The scientist must be able to effectively manage multiple projects and possess good time management skills in order to meet aggressive deadlines. Additionally, the position will interact with multiple contractors and outside vendors, so strong communication and interpersonal skills are imperative. The scientist must be able to utilize sound scientific principles to provide innovative solutions to complex problems. Good written communication skills will be required. Some domestic and international travel may be required. Key responsibilities will include: * Provide scientific support and guidance to internal customers regarding analytical testing. * Collaborate with Innovations, R&D, and Manufacturing to focus on bold, new consumer driven initiatives to ensure adequate and appropriate analytical testing support. * Provide technical over-sight to contract labs to ensure analytical testing requirements. * Conduct audits of internal and external labs.
Ideal Candidate
* PhD degree in Chemistry with 5 years experience or M.S. degree in Chemistry with 10 years experience preferred. * Knowledge of ISO, GMP and/or GLP standards preferred * In-depth knowledge of laboratory practices: scientific method, method development and validation, test procedures, chemical terminology, multiple analytical testing methods, LIMS and Chromatography Systems * Experience with data management * Experience with data review and statistics as they apply to analytical data * Excellent project management and team work skills * Proficient in Microsoft Office software. * Excellent interpersonal, written/oral communication and presentation skills
