Cloud Architect

We are a pioneer and leading provider of cloud security and compliance solutions that enable organizations to identify security risks to their IT infrastructures, help protect their IT systems and applications from ever-evolving cyber attacks and achieve compliance with internal policies and external regulations.

We are seeking a Platform Architect to work on the tools and microservices that will make up Qualys’ next-generation big data platform. You will be responsible for architecting, building and managing a highly scalable SaaS based cloud security platform processing millions of transactions and terabytes of data per day. Our goal is to significantly grow in 2016 and we’re looking for smart, passionate and hardworking folks to help influence design and development of a massively scalable platform servicing major organizations. This position will report to the VP of Platform Engineering

• The platform team is responsible for evaluating new technologies and putting in place innovative solutions to scale the ever-growing Qualys ecosystem. Technical leadership and a passion for open source technologies is a must for this position.
• Own overall platform services design and development and put in place a top-notch technology platform scaling to over a hundred million transactions per day with very low latency. Architecture, performance, scalability, high availability and security will be your primary goals for delivering a first-rate experience to our customers.
• Work closely with engineering teams, product management and operations to provide platform and infrastructure features and components to support Qualys’ business objectives.
• Able and willing to mentor engineers across teams to help them ramp up on new platform features.

Qualifications

• Prior hands-on experience working on a distributed high-performing system of reasonable scale.
• Strong coding (preferably Java), problem solving and analytical skills
• Experience working with large data sets and distributed computing tools.
• Experience with NoSQL databases (preferably Cassandra)
• Experience with messaging technologies like Kafka, Rabbit MQ or JMS
• Experience with steam processing frameworks such as Apache Samza, Spark or Storm
• Experience in developing search based applications using Elasticsearch or Solr

Additional Preferred Qualifications

• Proficient in building and deploying cloud-native mircoservice architectures
• Ability to operate like you’re in a small, fast-paced startup
