Open Source Database Expert

The Expert Open Source Database Consultant (OSDBC) will, as part of our consulting team, supply complete support for all aspects of databases and application infrastructure to a variety of clients, as assigned. This includes database design and architecture, data modeling, planning of deployment, deployment/test, transition to production environment, performance and health monitoring, performance, security and DR audits and reviews. You will occasionally (also) get to solve the most challenging problems escalated from the regular DBA teams.

* Recommendation of best practices for improvements to current operational processes and procedures * Troubleshooting of operational problems, including performance * Review customer database technology requirements * Write and present database recommendations to customers * Assist customers in the design and development of technology proof of concept evaluations * Restoration and recovery of corrupted databases * Database server configuration and maintenance * Administration of backup procedures and disaster recovery plans * Troubleshooting of operational problems, including performance * Periodic overtime and weekend work * Other duties as assigned by the Team Lead

**Qualifications:** * Significant experience with one or more of the following database technologies: MySQL, Cassandra, or MongoDB * Experience with Design and implementation of Highly Availability Architectures * Design and implementation of Disaster Recovery strategies * Data modeling and use case analysis * Performance Analysis and Tuning * Ability to create database workload profiles * Ability to recommend appropriate database technologies based on the data model and use case analysis * Coding Scripts, Procedures, functions, etc. * Installations, configurations, and upgrading of databases * Develop methods for monitoring * Experience in developing proof of concept tests * Experience interfacing with external customers * Good Project Management, time management, scheduling and coordination skills * White paper writing, blogging and presenting a plus * The successful candidate will have proper authorization to work and travel in the US **Bonus Qualifications:** (Any of the following) * Experience with other database platforms a plus * Experience with both Linux and Windows * Experience with one or more of the Public cloud services: AWS, Azure or GCP. * Experience with operational automation tool sets like Chef, Puppet, Jenkins, Github, containers and others * Experience with the Agile development process * Experience with big data technologies such as Hadoop, Hive, Pig, Spark, and Hbase. * BI Experience * Experience with load generation tools like Jmeter, Gatling and Grinder **Personal Attributes:** * Interfacing with external customers, strong customer service focus with the ability to manage customer expectations and priorities * Excellent oral and written communication * Self-motivated and directed, while working in a fast-paced demanding environment * Keen attention to detail * Superior analytical, evaluative, and problem-solving abilities * Very effective organizational skills * Ability to work in a team * Demonstrate sound work ethics * Understanding of current IT service standards such as ITIL **Working Conditions:** * Frequent, short notice, travel on a regular basis up to 50% * Receive occasional outside of work time pages and work periodic overtime * Ability to perform primary job functions while standing or sitting for extended periods of time * Dexterity of hands and fingers (or skill with adaptive devices) to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and other computing equipment * The incumbent must spend long hours in intense concentration * Stress may be caused by the need to complete tasks within tight deadlines **Education:** Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Information Technology other related field from an accredited university or equivalent experience.
