Summary
The UX Intern role is a paid internship that provides students with exposure to several functions within an agile development team where they can gain experience with design, agile methodology and practices, accessibility requirements and audits, persona development, and analyzing the competitive landscape.
Responsibilities
* Works under the direction of a Lead or Senior UX Designer to deliver artifacts and complete tasks to assist the team in delivering successful outcomes for users. * Applies user centered design methodology to develop an understanding of and serve as the advocate for the end user (perform user research, creates personas, user task analysis, process diagrams, use cases etc.). * Consults with software and content developers to understand and accommodate technical constraints. * Develops wireframes, sitemaps, and other design renderings which define the user interface form, function, navigation, interaction, and basic screen layout as needed. * Performs usability analysis to ensure ease-of-use for target user populations. * Writes brief functional requirements documents, annotated wireframes and/or user stories to convey design elements and interactions to the product development team as needed. * Works closely with the team implementing the designs to ensure business and user requirements have been met. * Performs accessibility audits and ensures designs meet accessibility standards per ADA Section 508 requirements and W3C WAI guidelines. * Actively participates in regular design reviews and provides and receives constructive feedback.
Ideal Candidate
**Minimum Qualifications:** * Applicants must be pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree at an accredited school and have completed 24 semester hours prior to the start of the internship. * Applicants must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.75. * Exposure to user centered design, user analysis techniques, and web and mobile usability best practices. * Familiarity with Visio, OmniGraffle or Axure. **Ancillary Qualifications:** * Basic understanding of capabilities and limitations of web technologies (HTML, CSS, XML, JavaScript, etc.). * Familiarity with design tools such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, etc. * Good written and verbal communication skills, including an ability to present designs and defend rationale. * Familiarity with usability analysis and testing methods. * Familiarity with applying analytics and usage data as part of user research. * Able to adapt to a flexible and changing environment. **Other important information about this position:** * This position may be based in our Ann Arbor, MI ProQuest office location. * This position requires weekday (Monday - Friday) attendance with some scheduling flexibility available around core working hours. This internship schedule can be up to 40 hours per week, based on the Intern's availability and will end late August/early September. * Every position requires certain physical capabilities.
