Summary
The Senior Linux Engineer is part of the Cloud and Virtualization team with ProQuest. This role works closely with partners and stakeholders to provide in-depth technical support of complex cloud and virtualization issues, maintain a highly dynamic infrastructure, and management of complex projects.
Responsibilities
* Develops server hardware and Unix/Linux (CentOS, Amazon Linux) operating system configuration change in support of complex and routine projects. Uses tools such as Chef, Jenkins, and AWS Cloudformation to automate these tasks. * Resolves wide variety of third level server troubleshooting tasks infrastructure hardware, software, and security issues via the company trouble ticketing system and escalation process. Responsible for the development, creation, installation, and configuration of new and replacement server devices including hardware, software, and physical connectivity. * Develops and configures server monitoring and automated escalations leveraging ProQuest best practices and industry standard software. Uses tools such as AWS CloudWatch, VMware vCenter, DataDog, and Evident.IO to monitor and troubleshoot infrastructure. * Owns troubleshooting of large, complex, multi-team issues impacting N-Tier Client Server and SOA applications. Includes Cisco UCS, VMWare vCenter/ESX and Amazon Web Services infrastructure. * Supports technology and software development teams and end users with server related questions and issues. * Responds to and drives to resolution any issues reported during assigned pager rotations. * Creates new standards, specifications, and technologies into existing processes and methodologies using modern DevOps and cloud toolchains. * Maintains and advances technical and non-technical skills. * Leverages in-house and outside resources for training and shares knowledge acquired with the team. Cloudacademy.com and other resources are provided. * Performs tasks with Systems Administrator and Systems Engineer providing guidance and direction resolving more complex server related issues and more complex project related tasks. * Responsible for vendor management and coordination of services. * Mentors junior engineers.
Ideal Candidate
**What you need to be successful?** * Bachelor’s degree or higher in related field, plus 5 years’ related work experience, or equivalent combination of education/certification and experience. * Strong knowledge of at least three of the following: server hardware, UNIX operating systems, Linux operating systems, UNIX services or security. * Experience with tools and technologies: * Unix/Linux (CentOS, Amazon Linux). Tools such as Chef, Jenkins, and AWS Cloudformation, AWS CloudWatch, VMware vCenter, DataDog, and Evident. * Advanced experience with problem solving, including the ability to capture, analyze, compare, evaluate, reconcile and order data. * Ability and strong desire to learn and master new technology. * Experience working in a fast paced, complex environment with rapidly changing priorities. * Server Infrastructure design and planning. * Capacity planning, analyzes facilities and bandwidth requirements and system interdependencies. **Ancillary Qualifications:** * AWS Certified Architect – Associate or Professional. * Vendor certifications, Red Hat (RHCSA, RHCE or higher) Cisco (CCDP, or higher). * Hands on experience with Cisco UCSM, UCS Central, UCS Performance Manger. * Hands on experience with Cisco UCS B/C, HP BL/DL or Sun/Oracle Servers. * Hands on experience with Unix Services (DNS, FTP, NTP, DHCP, LDAP, Nagios (or derivative). **Other important information about this position:** * Position is based in Ann Arbor ProQuest office location. * Occasional travel may be required. * Participates in the 24 x 7 Unix Systems Administration pager rotation as assigned. * Position requires weekday (Monday - Friday) attendance with some scheduling flexibility available around core working hours. * Individual will be required to lift equipment, maintain cabling, and work extended hours standing and performing work in a data center.
