Summary
We are looking for a smart, articulate and motivated Database Engineer working as part of the core IT database team and coordinating closely with Software engineers, System engineers, Architects and tech leads from product and engineering teams to help design, build, tune and maintain databases supporting priceline.com’s online business. We are passionate about what we do, brainstorming constantly to solve growing data related challenges including high scalability requirements for data and applications, with true 24x7 availability. Responsibilities
* Building and configuring new databases, applying patches and upgrading existing databases to new versions or platforms * Evaluating and testing new database technologies and tools to meet growing challenges * Develop scripts and jobs to automate database management functions including data loads, database builds, maintenance, tuning and monitoring of databases * Review, tune and implement DDL and DML scripts in QA and Production * Provide support to software engineers and data architects with database changes, troubleshooting and testing new database features * Provide DBA support for Oracle E business suite of applications * Set up and maintain viable database backups. Maintain and test failover and disaster recovery procedures. * Managing user privileges as per policy and standards, ensure security compliance. * Database monitoring and Performance tuning to ensure scalability and availability of databases * On call production support, troubleshooting, opening support tickets with vendors * Develop and maintain database deployment standards and best practices.
Ideal Candidate
* Bachelors in Computer Science or equivalent with 2 to 3 years working experience on Hadoop, Cassandra, MySQL or Oracle databases required * Experience working with and managing databases in a 24x7 online environment is essential. * Strong SQL skills preferred * Strong working knowledge of Linux shell scripting, scheduling cron jobs, basic troubleshooting etc. Knowledge of Perl or Python for scripting preferred. * Strong communication skills to understand the problem completely and explain design solutions effectively with technical teams and gain broad agreement. * Ability to handle multiple tasks with analytical problem solving skills. * Attention to details and comfortable working with large data sets on different platforms essential
