Summary
The Presidio Trust is seeking a media relations professional with a deep passion for media and a keen sensibility for connecting their organization with local, national and international news stories and trends. The Presidio is a new kind of national park. It is home to the spectacular vistas, nature and programs that visitors would expect from a National Park, as well as a community of residents and organizations who bring renewed vitality and purpose to this former military post. The Presidio Trust is an innovative federal agency created to save the Presidio and now charged with sharing it with the public. In maintaining the Trust's favorable image in its management of the Presidio, this critical new position will expand the media presence of the Presidio as a "must-see" San Francisco destination and an important natural, cultural and recreational resource for the American people. The ideal candidate will use best-practices in media relations to support larger integrated marketing strategies. Under the direction of the Associate Director of Strategic Engagement & Destination Marketing, you will develop, implement and track all media and promotional programs for the Presidio Trust. You will serve as the main point of contact for press, pitching strategic stories, and demonstrating incredible responsiveness to media requests including interviews. You will support media training of key Trust spokespeople, and ensure the Presidio and Presidio Trust are represented accurately in stories. Finesse in persuasion, and stellar writing and communication skills are essential, as well as expertise in working off of content platforms while ensuring the broader Presidio story is present.
Responsibilities
* Research and develop media plans including development and implementation of key messages, media targets, strategies, tactics, timeline and budget. * Develop and maintain press kit materials, the electronic press room, media lists, media monitoring and reporting. * Manage status reports and other day-to-day workflow, inclusive of PR pipeline and calendar. * Monitor media outlets for coverage of Presidio news and competitor news, and flag for appropriate team members. * Identify potential media stories and promotional opportunities working proactively with manager to develop and execute media strategies and messages. * Maintain existing relationships with reporters, while cultivating new reporters, through incoming media requests and proactive pitching. * Ensure media lists (Tier 1, local and online) are developed and kept up to date. * Investigate and respond quickly to inquiries from news media in close collaboration with external agency, collect relevant information, identify appropriate spokespeople, train spokes people, prepare messaging and secure approvals. * Collaborate with external agency to effectively manage priorities, PR opportunities and track budget. Work with public relations representatives from Presidio Trust's key managed service partners (Presidio Inn, restaurants and Presidio Golf Course) and program partners (National Park Service, National Parks Conservancy and Off the Grid) to ensure a cohesive press strategy across the organizations. * Create written content for news releases, media backgrounders, media alerts, as well as, talking points and quotes for key spokespeople. * Develop and maintain electronic news room and press materials. * Collaborate with broader team to create multimedia content such as infographics, photography, blog posts, social media posts and videos. * Analyze press coverage, track KPIs and prepare reports for Management Team and Board of Directors.
Ideal Candidate
* Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, journalism or related field, OR a minimum of five years media relations experience; agency experience preferred. * Must be a rabid media consumer; you are everyone's go-to-person to know what is happening in the world, and you are always thinking about how to tie the trends you see to enhance the organization's position. * Knowledge and experience with the Bay Area media market inclusive of social influencers and bloggers, with expertise in leveraging earned media coverage in the changing fragmented media landscape. * Experience in developing successful media and promotional campaigns with clear metrics * Excellent writing skills including message development and the development of compelling press materials (press releases, backgrounders, media advisories, media pitches). Expertise with AP style. * Incredibly organized; ability to think strategically; multi-task; attend to detail and deadlines; work well under pressure. * Self-driven problem-solver with a willingness to meet and exceed expectations. * Ability to excel in a fast-paced environment that allows for flexibility and changing priorities. * Strong collaborator with positive team approach. * Terrific judgement. * Experience with media distribution platforms, evaluation tools and proficiency in Microsoft Office. **Desired** * Experience in media relations for a destination and/or visitor attraction. * Passion for parks; strong desire to work for the Presidio. * Knowledge of Bay Area media landscape inclusive of social influencers. * Ability to manage the expectations of various users and constituents.
