Summary
Under general supervision performs full range of maintenance work and personal interactions required to keep a chemical processing plant technically in operation and buildings, utilities and related structures in good condition. Assists Plant Manager in training employees, diagnosing and solving mechanical problems, and performs repair or reinstallation work in a professional and safe manner. Helps control maintenance costs in an efficient manner by monitoring and alerting Plant Manager of repeated costly repairs and supply use.
Responsibilities
* Operates all tools and mechanical devices at the disposal of the Maintenance department. * Installs or repairs any mechanical equipment. * Installs or repairs any structure. This includes items such as roofs, stairs, ladders and platforms. * Diagnoses problems and determines course of action to solve or correct the situation. * Performs all above-mentioned tasks by oneself or by leading a crew in a safe and efficient manner. The performance includes planning for materials, time and manpower required, scheduling availability with other departments and requisitioning tools and materials for the task. * Records weekly, when running, status of critical equipment and reports problems to Plant Manager. * Records at startup and monthly, when running, status of process interlocks and reports problems to Plant Manager. * Executes verbal or written instructions by interpreting prints, manufacturers’ literature or by using sound judgment. * Trains others. * Directs all or portions of the maintenance work crew solely or in concert with others as directed by the Plant Manager. * Assesses each task assigned and recommends workable improvements as warranted. * Knows and observes applicable company policies, procedures and safe practices. * Assists Plant Manager in working decisions based on sound process and mechanical knowledge. * Working knowledge of RC 14001 & ISO 9000 * Maintains acceptable housekeeping in the maintenance area, including the Maintenance shop and surrounding area. * Understands and observes applicable company policies, procedures and safe practices. * Maintain safe working conditions and practices. * Assure maintenance of environmental control of plant facility as dictated by permits and state regulations, including the safe and orderly disposition of hazardous waste. * Perform various self-directed Continuous Quality Improvement team support roles. * Communicate problems, instructions, observations, and request orally and in writing to team members and other departments.
Ideal Candidate
* High School Diploma required. * Operates the liquid sodium silicate plant. Schedules the batch making, reacting, and processing of liquid sodium silicate according to safe job procedures (SJP’S). Responds system alarms by determining problem and taking corrective action. * Controls the processes through the use of statistical process control, to include: * Sampling and performing tests as needed. * Setting up and plotting data on control charts. * Diagnosing process and taking action as required. * Performs key coordinating duties for emergency response situations; notifying and working with police, fire and ambulance personnel as required. * Exhibits all skill requirements for production operations, operations any production equipment, performs miscellaneous duties as needed. * Performs quality control tests according to SJP’S * Performs all daily manufacturing building greasing and inspection. * Communicates process problems, instructions, observations, and requests in writing through the use of established systems, including: Production data sheets, SPC charts, etc.
