Summary
Reporting to PRB's digital producer, and working with an award-winning communications team, the digital designer will bring artistic vision and creative solutions to the organization by conceptualizing, designing and creating digital products that effectively communicate PRB's content in visually compelling ways. S/he will have the opportunity to shape the creative vision for the organization and advance PRB's solid reputation in the field of data visualization and multimedia. The digital designer is a well-rounded expert in design for multiple types of digital media. S/he is excited about keeping up with current design trends and developing innovative visual storytelling approaches.
Responsibilities
- Conceptualizes, designs and creates digital products for PRB, including but not limited to infographics (static and interactive), illustrations, data visualizations, motion graphics, staff presentations, and web features. - Works with PRB’s researchers, policy analysts, and digital producer to understand the purpose of the desired content, determine the type of products being made, set the creative direction, and develop timelines. - Keeps up-to-date with the latest web, design, and social media trends, and related software programs to make sure product designs are current and compatible with end user’s technology. - Manages select outside consultants, both web and graphic designers, on an as-needed basis.
Ideal Candidate
**Experience and Education** - Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, multimedia design, web design, or related field, and has at least 3 years of design experience. - A diverse portfolio across multiple media types that shows solid design skills and work with data or factual information. Mobile and tablet design experience a plus. **Qualifications** - Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite especially Illustrator and Photoshop. After Effects knowledge a plus. - Comfortable with all levels of multimedia production, from storyboarding to post-production. - Demonstrated time management and problem-solving skills. - A strong attention to detail especially when working with numbers. - Preferably has worked with content that explains complex and/or data-based ideas to a nontechnical audience. - Knowledge of front-end development, HTML5, and CSS3 to be able to work with developers and understand the coding process, what is possible to achieve with coding, and resources needed for different designs. - Knowledge of JavaScript a plus. Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. - Research experience and data analysis are a plus. Interpersonal and people-oriented skills. - Ability to deftly manage feedback from multiple stakeholders along the production process.
