Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Pika Energy, Inc. is a Westbrook, Maine-based manufacturer of direct current (DC) power electronics, including the Pika Energy Island™ system.

Pika Energy seeks a talented, creative Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the design, prototyping, testing, productization, and continuous improvement of clean energy products including inverters, power converters, and small-scale wind turbines. Pika Energy’s renewable energy products are installed across the United States and in multiple countries and support bidirectional power flow enabling advanced energy management solutions combining distributed generation, storage and loads.

* Develop new clean energy power conversion products * Develop and test controls for Pika Energy Island product which enables buildings to become autonomous nanogrids * Testing, certification and deployment of new power conversion products * Contribute to the embedded software development and certification effort of a grid-interactive inverter * Architect embedded software controllers

* Deep familiarity with and experience selecting manufacturing technologies (e.g. castings, injection molding, extrusion) * PV, wind, or other clean energy systems * Expert 3D CAD (solidworks preferred) * Sheet metal design * Surfacing/consumer product design * Heat transfer/thermal management * Welding/metal fab * Field work (rigging, climbing towers, heavy equipment) * Electrical work (wiring) * Basic electronics (multimeter, oscilloscope) * Data acquisition * Field testing * UL/Intertek certification * Startup company culture * Structural analysis (analytical & FEA) * Degree in Mechanical Engineering * Proven self-starter. Positive, highly motivated, adaptable, engaging and hungry for success * Passionate advocate for and knowledgeable about renewable energy and/or new technology * Comfortable adapting to the dynamic needs and priorities of a startup company * An intuition for electrical and mechanical engineering principles * Ability to communicate effectively and work in a team setting
