Summary
As a Medical Device Electrical Engineer, you will be part of the San Diego FM Research and Development team and will support the design and development of new products and technology for the Functional Measurement (FM) Business unit. The position will contribute to and be responsible for the electrical design aspects of the disposable device, test/manufacturing equipment development, process development, design inputs/output determination, new component development, and test method development related to new products, process improvements and/or design enhancements as determined by management.
Responsibilities
* Complete product design and development project related tasks/goals with very little supervision from project lead or supervisor. Tasks include product design, process development, equipment development, component design and test development through the design control process. * During the product development process, evaluates new product/process technology (internal or external), fixture design, tooling, equipment features/changes, and test methods. * Investigate/evaluate new component and equipment suppliers relative to the development of new materials, components or equipment. * Provides Electrical Engineering technical guidance and mentoring to R&D Engineers, Mfg. Engineers, Technicians, and other cross-functional team members in the San Diego and Costa Rica facilities. * Strong contributor to the creation and execution of project plan associated with new products. * Supports generation and maintenance of Design, Use and Process FMEA as part of the Design Control process * Support other internal projects driven by CAPA, CIP, etc. as assigned by R&D Department * Supports internal and external audit processes by representing the company as subject matter expert for R&D engineering
Ideal Candidate
* Bachelor’s degree in, Electrical Engineering or Bioelectrical Engineering, or other relevant field with 8+ years of experience in the design, development and manufacturing of a product (device, instrument, part, component, etc.), preferably in the medical device industry. * Experience with EMC, ESD, and signal integrity testing to international standards * Familiarity with LabVIEW and test system development * Strong technical writing skills for generation of specifications, schematics, requirements documents, work instructions, technical protocols and reports. * Strong communication skills both written and verbal to provide updates and feedback to management and team members. * Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Use data to drive decisions * Ability to work with external material suppliers and/or engineering vendors. * Ability to work on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. * Practical understanding of variation statistics (ANOVA), Design of Experiments (DOE), process validation and design control * Proficient with Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Visio, Project) to create schedules, presentations, graphs and charts and doing analysis. * Demonstrates strong organizational and interpersonal skills working in a cross-functional, regulated environment. * Knowledge of proper English usage, grammar, spelling, vocabulary and of generally accepted office practices, procedures and equipment Desirable * Pressure Sensor or related sensor technology experience * Experience with the design and development of an electro-mechanical medical device such as medical instrumentation or disposable medical devices. * Familiarity with cardiac catheterization procedures, tools, and terminology
