Scientist for Research and Development

Responsible for all aspects of the product and process development from pre-formulation to commercialization for all dosage forms. Effectively utilizes standard best practices and procedures in product and process development. Explores and conducts research in relevant technologies. Provides and drives technology advancements in various dosages to drive innovation and point of difference for the brands. Interfaces effectively with marketing, manufacturing, technical operations and other cross functional areas to accomplish project goals.

* Collaborates with inside & outside entities to develop and drive technology advancements. * Develops intellectual properties in supplement technology relating to composition, usage, and process that will result in viable patents and/or competitive advantages. Develops prototypes to demonstrate application of new technologies. * Independently designs and conducts well designed experiments to provide technology advancements for supplement applications. Presents relevant findings to R&D management and appropriate technical groups. * Develops formulations and processes to support the development of new and novel products and/or optimization of existing products. Responsible for the coordination and execution of bench-top, pilot, manufacturing scale-up and verification batches with speed and robustness. * Effectively navigates through complex formulation & technical challenges. Able to trouble-shoot and provide workable solutions to highly complex formulations. * Maintains accurate records of all development projects. Prepares all relevant technical documents such as raw material and bulk specifications, SOP's, manufacturing batch records, technology transfer documents and any other relevant documents in the development and commercialization of the products. * Prepares stability, consumer and clinical samples. Prepares reviews and approves stability protocols. Works effectively with R&D Analytical to monitor, evaluate, summarize and interpret results of stability studies. * Maintains awareness of current development in the functional discipline. Develops & maintains a vast network of vendors, consultants, and educators in order to leverage emerging and enabling technologies. * Provides scientific leadership to Marketing and other cross-functional disciplines to accomplish project goals. * Communicates and leads effectively in a cross functional team environment and serves as a scientific SME in solving complex formulation/process issues. * Trains and mentors others in developing new products; conducts appropriate experiments and instructs in the proper use of laboratory and manufacturing equipment. * Performs other related duties as assigned.

**Education:** Requires a four-year college or university degree or its equivalent in Chemistry, Pharmacy, Food Science, Chemical Engineering or other relevant science degree. Masters or PHD preferred. **Experience:** * Bachelor's degree requires at least 8 years of relevant experience in product development in the Nutraceutical or Pharmaceutical industry. * Master's degree requires 3 - 8 years' experience of relevant experience in product development in the Nutraceutical or Pharmaceutical industry. * PhD degree requires 2 - 5 years' experience of relevant experience in product development in the Nutraceutical or Pharmaceutical industry. * Practical experience in Design of Experiment is preferred. **Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:** * Competent in interpreting and understanding scientific and technical literature and reporting findings in application oriented reports and presentations. * Demonstrated strong depth of research knowledge and skills with the ability to statistically analyze data. * Strong project, organizational and time management skills. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal are required. * Comprehensive knowledge and practical experience in product/process development, processing laboratory techniques and regulatory requirements and a firm foundation in chemistry, mathematics, pharmaceutical and/or food science. **Physical Requirements:** Manufacturing and general office environment, ability to sit for long periods of time. **Environment:** Moderate exposure to disagreeable elements. Frequent work in pilot plant and production facilities. **Safety:** The incumbent must be able to perform this job safely in accordance with standard operating procedures and good manufacturing practices, without endangering the health or safety of self or others. **Supervisory Responsibility:** The incumbent has no direct supervisory responsibility. May guide and assign the work of others.
