Summary
This role bridges the activities of the Quality function, Food Safety, Sanitation function and Engineering design. More specifically, it ensures that we understand and incorporate from microbial testing results into our cleaning & sanitation programs and that we incorporate sanitary design principles into how we design both equipment and areas within our factories. The overall purpose of the position is to ensure we are proactively creating and maintaining sanitary environments and to also ensure we are reactively leveraging new environmental testing results to influence practices where warranted.
Responsibilities
* Chairs cross-functional review with sanitation, quality assurance, operations and micro lab personnel to align on opportunities and actions by location * Provides insight on testing frequency & sampling locations to improve effectiveness of the environmental monitoring program based on knowledge and significant direct observation in the operating environment. * Reacts to environmental monitoring results through evaluation of collected data, shaping changes to sanitation, operational and GMP programs to improve cleanliness * Participates in design and execution of validated cleaning protocols in varied operational environments * Supports decisions on chemical use & rotation to drive desired needs for effective sanitation for microbial and allergen needs * Prepares and updates SOPs for improvements in cleaning and sanitation, cross contamination risk mitigation issues * Conducts ongoing company-wide training related to the correct labeling, use, storage, disposal of allergen items * Performs periodic audits to assure compliance with established SOPs, cleaning practices * Partners with Engineering in establishing of design criteria for equipment and facilities. Partners in capital development to ensure these needs are met. * Supports Autonomous Maintenance activities to improve equipment conditions and operators knowledge * Performs other related duties as assigned.
Ideal Candidate
**Education:** * Requires 4-year undergraduate degree in food science, biology, engineering, or other related field. **Certification:** * No licenses or certifications are required. HACCP, USDA Better Process School, cGMP Training, FSMA Training, Project Management (PMP) and other certifications related to the needs of the position preferred. **Experience:** * Requires five years of experience with an emphasis in cleaning validation , sanitation, microbiology and/or engineering design for sanitation. A combination of experience across these areas is highly preferred as the position with bridge these functions. Must have operational experience in a food, pharmaceutical or other USDA/FDA regulated environment where both allergens and microbial sanitation programs are used. **Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:** **Requires:** * Comprehensive knowledge of cleaning validation, sanitation and the scientific understanding to influence strategy & sanitary design with respect to microbial and allergen contamination risk * Good oral and written communication skills and an ability to effectively train both technical and non-technical staff * Ability to travel up to 20% to support multiple facilities * Ability to periodically support audit and training on any shift * Ability to work independently or with others at all levels of the organization **Physical Requirements:** * Position is located in a manufacturing/warehousing environment and individual must be able to conduct equipment and area audits with will require physical flexibility and the ability to stand for extended periods of time. **Environment:** * Exposure to disagreeable elements is moderate. **Safety:** * The incumbent must be able to perform this job safely in accordance with standard operating procedures and good manufacturing practices, without endangering the health or safety of self or others. **Supervisory Responsibility:** * Leads programs and influences others, does not have direct reports
