Summary
We are seeking a candidate with an extensive mortgage background who has excellent research skills and a positive, non-confrontational attitude. The Scenario Desk Underwriter will help resolve loan file issues early in the loan process and save production underwriters’ time by resolving complicated issues prior to submission. Decisions made by the Scenario Desk Underwriter continue with the loan file through closing. In addition to these duties, the candidate would assist in researching investor and agency guidelines on a project basis in order to help develop internal policy. The candidate will possess a strong working knowledge of agency and investor guidelines, policies and tolerances, which will translate into sound judgments made on each scenario reviewed.
Responsibilities
* Demonstrate the ability to translate underwriting guidelines with application of mitigating factors, when applicable, to ensure proper salability to investors. * Provide courteous, succinct and accurate responses to challenging income, asset, credit and collateral-related questions in a timely manner. * Follow appropriate procedure if a management escalation is warranted. * Communicate both in writing and orally with investors, loan officers and processors. * Provide income calculation for loan officers to ensure the income utilized in prequalification is accurate. * Demonstrate the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, high volume work environment in an organized manner.
Ideal Candidate
* 3-5 years of residential loan underwriting experience * Demonstrated experience researching information, problem solving, and making sound business decisions * DE certification and recent FHA underwriting experience preferred * VA SAR/LAPP experience preferred * Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously * Strong oral and written communication skills * Excellent research skills * Working knowledge of business and personal tax returns in regards to mortgage underwriting * Working knowledge of appraisal reports in regards to mortgage underwriting * Ability to make decisions within established procedures
