Summary

We are looking for candidates who have the desire and ability to create a welcoming classroom culture that positively engages and impacts our diverse student population.

Responsibilities
  • Ability to teach: 1) foundation visual design courses AND
  • 2) media design in any of the following areas: web,
  • interactive design, UX (user experience) design, UI (user
  • interface) design, additional experience in motion design or
  • game design or creative coding desired
  • Instruct and facilitate meaningful learning in the course
  • competencies in the curriculum and support all facets of
  • the learning environment
  • Provide career education within a learner-centered
  • program that will enable graduates to fulfill the evolving
  • needs of the marketplace
  • Encourage a culture of learning that values mutual
  • responsibility, life-long learning, diversity and personal and
  • professional development
  • Ability to fulfill the area’s responsibilities of a full-time
  • tenured instructor and perform under the guidelines
  • of the college and division as described in their mission
  • statements
  • Participate in the evaluation, revision, and development of
  • the curriculum, including hybrid and online curriculum
  • Participate in divisional and college governance activities
  • through committee service and/or other appropriate
  • activities
  • Undertake the divisional and professional responsibilities of
  • a regular faculty member
  • Participate with faculty to develop and assess student
  • learning outcomes. Use the results to improve teaching
  • and learning
  • Utilize innovative teaching strategies to meet the learning
  • needs of a diverse student population
  • Provide leadership and vision in the evolving role of digital
  • media in art and design
Ideal Candidate
  • Master's degree in fine arts, art, or art history OR
  • Bachelor's degree in any of the above AND a Master's degree in humanities OR
  • A valid California Community College Instructor Credential OR
  • The equivalent (Equivalency requires substantial years of professional practice in one or more of the following fields of expertise: Web, UX, UI, interactive, motion, graphics, game design.) AND
  • - Demonstrated proficiency in teaching at the community college level or its equivalent
  • Ability to work in a multiethnic environment with students who have a variety of learning styles and abilities
  • Degree must be shown as conferred on transcript. Some degrees may require equivalency. It is the applicant's responsibility to provide documentation to support equivalent qualifications
  • Teaching experience
  • Understanding of emerging media design
  • Experience or interest in leadership, program development,
  • and grant writing
  • Awareness of global design trends and experience/
  • knowledge in sustainable and social design issues
  • Currently practicing in emerging media design in any of
  • the following areas: web, motion graphics, interactive, or
  • game design
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the
  • diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and
  • ethnic backgrounds of community college students
  • An ability to teach collaboratively
  • Willingness and ability to help develop new curriculum
  • Capacity to provide consistent instruction to students,
  • open to flexibility when needed and able to work in a
  • diverse environment
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of applicable computer
  • software and hardware, as related to one’s area of
  • specialization
  • An active record of professional achievement as
  • demonstrated by the following: professional practice,
  • publications, grants, or other scholarship. Capacity to
  • maintain design skills through professional activities and/or
  • its equivalent
  • Willingness to work with and support basic skills students.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills; strong
  • interpersonal skills and the ability to act effectively as a
  • member of a team
