Responsibilities
**Responsibilities:** - Seeking an individual with excellent fact-finding, interpersonal and communication skills to assist the Civil Rights Division of the United States Department of Justice in its investigation of law enforcement agencies and related outreach to the community to support DOJ’s enforcement of a federal law that gives DOJ the ability to remedy patterns or practices of misconduct by law enforcement agencies. - Understand the relevance between information contacted individuals may possess and what is needed to investigate, litigate, and enforce agreements. - Be creative, proactive, and energetic in building relationships and developing information during investigations of patterns or practices of law enforcement misconduct. - Keep critical stakeholders appropriately informed. - Convey information in an organized and concise manner, both orally and in writing. - Accurately explain to stakeholders the Division’s authority and role. - Interact effectively and professionally with a broad variety of stakeholders, including law enforcement officers and individuals who allege they have been harmed by law enforcement officers. - Maintain composure in emotionally fraught situations and conversations. - Handle conflicts and concerns from community members and stakeholders with sensitivity and diplomacy. - Gather and convey information to attorneys, including how that information is relevant to the overall strategy of the case.
Ideal Candidate
**Qualifications:** - Must be a US Citizen and able to obtain a security clearance. - The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience and expertise in identifying key stakeholders and community representatives; organizing and facilitating meetings with community groups; locating and maintaining contact with potential witnesses, affected individuals, and communities; documenting and developing corroborating evidence for allegations of police misconduct and related harm; and demonstrating empathy and respect when interacting with alleged victims of misconduct, individuals who have suffered trauma, disaffected individuals, and other stakeholders and community members. - Excellent writing skills. - Strong communication skills. - Travel required. - Experienced Investigator, Paralegal certificate or JD with practical experience.
