Senior Product Designer

**Summary of Position based in Denver, CO:** Outward Hound will continue to Raise The Woof with our new Sr. Product Designer to lead the design of soft and hard products for the company, creating a new generation of innovative pet products with a sustainable competitive advantage. You will be responsible for the planning, management, development and execution of new products from initial concepts to product delivery. The primary focus of this role is to manage a cross functional team implementing and managing a stage gate NPD/PDM process that defines, develop and proves out product concepts aligned with strategic sales/marketing plans and road map. In addition, this position includes working with our China team to put new products into production and verify design intent, costing, materials, product requirements and QC/QA engineering specifications. **Responsibilities:** - Manage a product designer and external vendors while collaborating with a cross-functional team. - Project management, competitive/consumer research, scope projects, approve designs, and allocate resources with ongoing KPI’s and milestone schedules. - Collaborate with future Blue Sky team to originate novel concepts and technologies for our next generation ensuring continuous short and long term pipeline of new products. - Work with our Sales, Merchandisng, Sourcing and Factories to ensure a cohesive approach to the design of our products. - Communicate ideas quickly and effectively using a combination of sketching, CAD layouts, 3D models and working prototypes to evaluate potential solutions and all manufacturing vendor DFM tech packs. - Apply a comprehensive understanding of high-volume manufacturing processes and materials to optimize designs. - Manage external providers of technology solutions to reduce our time to market. - Continually identify new ideas, products, and features that improve customer satisfaction, reduce costs, and keep our product line at the forefront of our industry. - Drive mechanical design, analysis, documentation, and validation. - Conduct product evaluation and tests to validate the robustness and proper performance of new products - Collaborate with suppliers, partners, and our China office to ensure the successful development and launch of new products on time and budget.

- B.S./BID degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, Product Design, or equivalent. - Experience in the development of high-volume consumer products. - 7+ years of relevant experience in mechanical engineering, ID or product design of consumer products. - 5+ years managing a cross functional design team and PDM process with the abiity to coach and mentor. - Advanced knowledge and experience using ProE and SolidWorks - Working knowledge of using FEA tools is a plus. - Knowledge of dimensioning and performing statistical tolerance analysis. - Experience with Asia manufacturing suppliers including travel to China factories familiar with all soft and hard good materials and production processes. - Experience in soft and hard good pet products, toys or outdoor gear is a plus. - We will request to see a portfolio or samples of work that clearly demonstrates your design capability and commercial success.
