Summary
This position is accountable for the overall operations management of a 3X1 Combined Cycle Plant located in Choctaw County Mississippi. Duties include supervision and direction of the station operations team in the safe and reliable production of electricity while managing risk and meeting all statutory and regulatory requirements. The successful candidate must be forward thinking, and competent to determine and communicate priorities for successful achievement of station operational goals. Additionally the position is accountable for achievement of continuous operational improvement through active implementation of NRG and station processes and initiatives.
Responsibilities
* Lead operations team in a safe and environmentally compliant manner. * Manage all aspects of station operations to assure business objectives and goals are met. * Work closely with maintenance to support the maximum commercial availability of the station by effectively prioritizing daily, weekly, monthly and annual maintenance activities. * Champion and reinforce adherence to sound operations Best Practices as defined by corporate standards * Lead the development and reinforcement of sound operations procedures for routine and abnormal operating conditions.Routinely interface with NRG Commercial Operations concerning plant's commercial availability, outage planning, etc. * Develop and implement an operational accountability structure to ensure that critical parameters and equipment are being routinely monitored to support reliable plant operations.Develop and manage the annual budgetary requirements for the Operations group. * Work closely with plant and regional engineering resources to identify and drive processes for continuous improvement in commercial availability and heat rate. * Develop methods, systems and approaches by which individuals are coached to become more accountable for their personal results and contributions to the overall competitiveness of the station. * Develop and maintain high quality training methods to attract, retain, and maintain a highly skilled and motivated workforce.Maintain high standards for plant housekeeping and overall cleanliness.
Ideal Candidate
**Education** Minimum of a Bachelor Degree in Engineering, a related technical field, or equivalent experience and knowledge of power plant systems, equipment, material, operations and finances as they pertain to the assigned area of responsibility. **Experience** * Minimum 10 years experience in a power generation operations, or maintenance environment. Successful experience leading/supervising employees is a must. * Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.Ability to work well under pressure, remaining focused and calm in the face of distractions. * Detailed understanding of power plant technical theory, plant equipment and control requirements is essential. * Must possess strong supervisory skills to effectively supervise/coach and coordinate the continuous operation of the generating station. * Demonstrated competencies relative to this position include accountability, adaptability/flexibility, business acumen, customer focus, empowering others, problem solving, shaping strategy, teamwork and tolerance for stress. * Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential for succeeding in the Operations Manager position.
