Summary
To support our growing team, we are looking for an engineer to work with our platform team. You’re the right fit if you’re the best and there’s not a problem you can’t solve. We need an experienced engineer who has a broad background across multiple infrastructure areas to work with our team as they continue to build capabilities within public cloud. We’re looking for self-motivated and self-driven engineers who are passionate about what they do and love technology. We need an engineer that is always developing solutions with scalability, availability and security in mind and seeks to understand how the applications are running on their infrastructure. You will be working on the platform team building systems in the cloud for applications to run on. These systems support the future development of the client and planner experiences for Northwestern Mutual. The team is located in Milwaukee but has the opportunity to travel to the New York office (Learnvest) as needed.
Responsibilities
* Within the first month – while working with engineers on the teams, be able to jump head-first into enhancing the platform and ask the appropriate questions / do the appropriate research to identify the general functions and behaviors of the system. * Within three months – have proficient knowledge of the platform and be able to take the reins around backlog items and appropriately develop and implement solutions to the platform. * Within six to nine months – be able to navigate the full stack of the platform and supporting components, contributing directly to engineering discussions that affect the current and future state of the applications. Essentially, contributing to the team at your full capacity.
Ideal Candidate
**Competencies** * Fast learner and self-starter. The people you will work with are incredibly kind and extremely willing to share knowledge and a helping hand, but you have to be willing to take ownership of the outlined goals and make things happen. * Ability to take initiative and work with minimal supervision, yet actively interact with other team members in person or over the Internet (chat, videoconference, email). * Work collaboratively on creative solutions with engineers, product managers and designers. * Bring new ideas and new ways of solving problems to the team. **Skills** * Experience with cloud providers like AWS and Azure and services like EC2, VPC, RDS, and S3 * Knowledge of an infrastructure provisioning frameworks like Ansible or Terraform * Great understanding of infrastructure security and familiarity with security frameworks defined in NIST and ISO. * Hands on work with Docker and containerization including Docker orchestration frameworks, specifically Kubernetes * Knowledge of Linux administration * Networking experience including firewalls/security groups and VPN’s * Working knowledge of GIT and source code management **Education / Professional Experience** * Bachelor's degree or Associate's degree in Computer Science or a related field. * 3 to 5 years professional experience.
