Summary
As a Developer Intern, you’ll work on a variety of engineering tasks, including bug fixes, project work, and collaboration with sales, marketing, community and product team members. Interns can expect to pair program with Newsela engineers to build features for the site that teachers and students use daily. In addition, interns will work on an intern-specific project which they will demo to the company at the end of their internship. Possible projects include building a module on the teacher homepage using React and Redux or working on developer operations tools using Python scripts and AWS API’s.
Responsibilities
* Collaborating with engineers and the product team to work on projects up and down the stack. * Learning to write thoughtful, expressive code. * Building web application prototypes that would impact students, teachers and the whole Newsela ecosystem. * Working collaboratively with other developers in a distributed version control system.
Ideal Candidate
**The Ideal Candidate** * Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s program at an accredited college or university as a junior. * Demonstrated experience in either an object-oriented programming language or JavaScript (or both). * Familiarity contributing code to team projects (e.g. in an academic setting or technical internship) **Some Plusses** * Able to manage their time well, communicate with team members, and collaborate across functional groups. * Inquisitive, self-motivated, humble, and a team player.
