Summary
Newsela is looking for someone to bridge the gap between design and technology. You should be someone with a history of accomplishments as both a designer and a developer.The Junior Product Designer will report to the Director of UX and work closely with UX and Visual Designers to create unique and simple solutions to complex problems. You should be excited to rapidly iterate on ideas that could come from anywhere in the company. The Product Designer will be a workhorse that creates design and code to produce prototypes (or more) in a fast paced environment. This role requires a person be a brilliant designer and an exceptional developer.
Responsibilities
* Design and develop for each of Newsela's products with a focus on UX and UI * Define interaction details * Maintain the current brand while pushing new ideas and concepts forward with a mix of design and technology * Participate in strategy discussions for overall feature design and prioritization * Translate business requirements into usable user experiences * Work with the UX designers to create clickable prototypes * Work with developers to turn prototypes into usable code * Design wireframes based on requirements * Design visual designs based on art direction * Write thoughtful, literate code independently and with the support of technical leadership. * Bring technical expertise and creativity to your own projects and the work of Newsela as a whole.
Ideal Candidate
* Bachelor’s degree. * 1+ years professional experience handling a mix of front-end development and visual or UX design responsibilities * Proven ability to work with minimal supervision. * Demonstrated mastery of Keynote. * Demonstrated mastery of Creative Suite Apps: Illustrator, Photoshop. * Demonstrated knowledge of Sketch. * Proven proficiency in HTML, CSS, Javascript. **Some Plusses** * Startup-savvy and an entrepreneurial spirit. * An eye for design. * Proficiency in Python. * Master of Indesign. * Experience participating in User Tests. * Have a great attitude and be willing to work in a fast-paced and ever-changing agile environment.
