Summary
This Data architect will be responsible for design/development of enterprise and platform-specific data architectures with primary responsibility for data sourcing, data integration, metadata management and data modeling in alignment with blueprint strategic direction to ensure platforms meet the needs of business users, and/or internal end user applications. The incumbent will review the current data landscape and architecture and work closely with various IT groups to establish standardize database inventory. Responsibilities include analyzing enterprise data and business requirements and incorporating them into the reference architecture's design and implementation , define enterprise Data Policy and Standards , create and develop reliable, scalable data solutions that ensure the collection of clean and consistent data from the multiple / disparate data sources, and will be the subject matter expert on new data integration methodologies and implementations. Success in the role will be determined by a streamlined data workflow and integrating various data sources within Data Lake.
Responsibilities
- Based on the business strategy, design data models for end-to-end data integration, oversee enterprise data integration ,data stores, warehouses, repositories, schemas, catalogs, access methods and other enterprise related data assets - Understand the current data landscape, create detail enterprise data inventory, identify data rationalization scope and define data flows. - Design Metadata management and creation of logical data architecture within Data Lake that meets enterprise data governance and standards. - Define/design data security and access standards. - Maintain architectural processes, standards, and guidelines, specifically around data, define enterprise Data Policy and Standards. - Define and maintain detail reference architecture playbook, collaborate with various stakeholders to update as required. - Review data integration/models for alignment to guidelines, standards and policies - Hands on architecture experience on Data Management tools for Data governance, Data Quality , Master Data management , Analytics, Data Security , others - Understand data related initiatives within New York Life and work closely with engineers team for optimal designs and best solutions - Drive knowledge management practices for key enterprise data platforms and collaborate within solution design and delivery - Collaborate with peers across Enterprise Data Management, to deliver on the overarching strategy - Develop framework, metrics and reporting to ensure progress can be measured, evaluated and continually improved - Stay current and informed on emerging technologies; develop an active community to prototype, analyze and develop a point of view on core, enabling and emerging technologies - Maintain artifacts related to architectural standards, tools and processes for the enterprise data model, data technology architecture, data integration, data warehouse / business intelligence meta-data and an enterprise taxonomy
Ideal Candidate
- 5+ years of data architectural experience with hands on experience in data modeling and data integration. - Experience with database development and support of OLTP and/or OLAP systems. - Hands on knowledge of Data Models, data integration, ETL, Hadoop, NoSQL DBs (ie - MongoDB, others), Hbase, Hive, Pig, etc. including insights / point of view on what data technology to use when - Demonstrated experience with NOSQL design and flexible schema definitions with variety of products (MongoDB, Cassandra, Hbase, etc) - Extensive hands on data warehousing and Business Intelligence experience as either Data or Solution Architect - In-depth knowledge of data related best practices for Architecture, Transformation, Business Intelligence or Analytics - Experience in data modeling and understanding of business data in Insurance / Investments - Experience with Master Data Management and related tools / platforms for implementation - Minimum Bachelor's Degree in relevant field; Master's Degree a plus **Skills and Competencies:** - Thinks strategically - sets architectural direction aligned to data & analytics strategy for the enterprise and applies both external and internal perspectives to meet business needs - Results Driven - sets aggressive goals and is accountable for continuously driving improved outcomes, leading change and ensuring high standards - Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal in conveying technical design and approach for delivering technical solution - Pragmatic in his/her approach, delivering incrementally and demonstrating value - Ability to help train/develop less senior people on the team - Other competencies: critical thinker, adaptable, self-starter, demonstrates sound judgment
