About New York City Department of Design and Construction
The Department of Design and Construction (DDC) builds many of the civic facilities New Yorkers use every day.
Responsibilities
- The New York City Department of Design and Construction seeks 2 senior graphic designers that can make an immediate contribution within our Creative Services team. - The selected candidates will join an active studio, designing communications in a variety of media for DDC and other City agencies, including the Mayor's Office. - The senior designers will collaborate and lead teams on a wide variety of identity and outreach projects executed across print, video, digital, and environmental media. - The selected candidates will lead projects through all phases of the design process, from concept development to implementation. - They will also work with the head of Creative Services to maintain the current brand standards, and, more importantly, build upon and expand the brand's visual language. - Candidates will have demonstrated an ability to think on a strategic level while designing elegant solutions for complex problems. - The selected candidates will thrive in a team environment, but will also have the ability to work independently and drive projects efficiently to final execution.
Ideal Candidate
**Minimum Qual Requirements** - High school graduation or equivalent and two years of training in an approved technical school in oils, water colors, painting, design, black and white, layout and other art media and seven years full-time paid experience as a commercial artist, four years of which must have been in supervision and planning of art work done by a staff; or - Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1". However, all candidates must have the four years of supervisory experience as described above. **Preferred Skills** - The preferred candidates will have a college or post-graduate degree in design, and have a minimum of five years of full-time experience as a graphic designer. Interest in architecture, urban design, and New York City is preferred. - Candidates must have a portfolio demonstrating a range of visual communication skills, analytical ability, strong typography, and exceptional creative talent. Must art direct, manage pre-press, traffic, and nurture creativity. - Role requires one who is self-motivated, detail oriented, well organized, and able to work under deadlines. - Candidates must have strong communication and presentations skills. - Technical knowledge and expertise using Adobe CS Master Collection is essential. Knowledge of Adobe AfterEffects, Adobe Premiere, and basic HTML and CSS knowledge are a plus. **Please include a PDF or link to your portfolio for review.**
