About New Relic
New Relic is a Software Analytics company that makes sense of billions of metrics across millions of apps. We help the people who build modern software understand the stories their data is trying to tell them.
Responsibilities
New Relic is looking for a manager to lead a team that is building a product JavaScript developers can't live without. You'll be a part of a team doing mind-bending engineering to make the lives of JavaScript developers better. We're one of the most widespread JS scripts on the Internet, and our team has big plans over the next year. We're looking for the right person to help guide the product and team. **What will you be doing?** * You will tune and organize the system that creates the most amazing product possible. It takes a great team to build an amazing product, and you’re starting with one. It’s up to you to tune the system. You’re the person ultimately responsible for what the team produces, and for creating the alchemy that makes brilliant things happen within the team. And what we’re creating together is something that should feel like magic to our customers. * You will coach your teammates. New Relic managers invest a huge amount of time in their teammates (and your direct reports are your teammates). You’ll be the coach for your team, helping them to get better every day. * You will turn ideas into great results. You’ll be running highly iterative, fast changing projects, and running many of them at a time. You'll be managing projects, communicating across the company, and coordinating all the details that make things run smoothly. You’ve done this before, have failed in countless ways, love the challenge, and know a million ways to make a project more successful. * You will support your peers. New Relic offers some of the best support for managers in the industry. You’ll enjoy a peer support group that helps you succeed, and you'll be part of a thriving management culture.
Ideal Candidate
- You love the world of front-end development and the browser, and want to make it better. - You have at least a few years of management experience, or quite a bit of team lead experience. - You have experience in front-end engineering — with JavaScript or Browser technology. This experience should be deep. If you don't know what source maps, React, Flux, Angular, or ES6 are, you probably won't be a great fit for this position (but you might be a good fit at other positions at New Relic!). If you know what the resource timing spec is all about, that's a great sign. - You enjoy helping others succeed. At New Relic we believe in a 'reverse hierarchy,' where managers support their engineers and aid in removing obstacles to their success. - You are willing to adapt your management style. We’re working in a highly changing environment, and having a particular process you follow isn’t going to work. Dogma won’t live long here — we’re constantly tinkering with things to make them better. - You really enjoy change. Although the company is doing well and the work/life balance is something we highly value and support at New Relic, we’re a growing company, and that means things change a lot here. You’ll get a lot of support, but you will have a different job every six months, so you should flourish with this that type of change. - You value high iteration speed, low cycle times, beautiful UX, a focus on the actual problems we're solving for our customers, good communication and collaboration, and improving the people around us.
