Managing Editor, Integrated Media, Boston

The editor must have excellent editing, writing and organizational skills as well as experience in telling stories through videos, photos and multimedia packages. This editor must actively and consistently communicate as news develops, collaborating with our broadcast producers on thorough, up-to-the-minute coverage on all platforms. We also seek an editor who is comfortable using social media for reporting and disseminating information and to engage the community and grow audience and loyalty. The right candidate will be attuned to the latest trends in journalism and emerging platforms for disseminating news and gathering news. We seek a battle-tested editor with experience managing and motivating teams day to day and on big breaking news.

* Work closely with Director of Integrated Media and senior news managers as well as reporters, anchors and producers to report, write and edit news stories, photos and videos on NBC Universal’s website, broadcasts, social media and other platforms * Lead a team of digital journalists working on 24-7 deadlines to update stories around the clock and on weekends * Use superior news judgment and solid breaking news writing and editing skills in order to manage multiple breaking news stories at once * Use social media as a promotional tool as well as a news-gathering tool and a listening post for breaking news and emerging trends * Move stories across platforms, developing web stories for the broadcast and broadcast stories for the web * Track Omniture, Chartbeat and other real-time traffic metrics to grow audience and identify stories. * Cover other shifts as assigned by management, when needed

* Experience as an editor, writer or producer at a major news organization that creates content under tight deadlines * College degree, preferably in journalism, political science or English or equivalent experience * Experience working with an online publishing tool or content management system * Experience leading teams of journalists and in-depth news coverage * Must be a skilled and fast writer with superior news judgment * Must have a sophisticated understanding of social media platforms and strategy * Must possess excellent interpersonal communications skills and a can-do mentality as unexpected challenges arise * Must have the desire to work in a creative, demanding, competitive environment * Must be able to work early mornings, weekends and extended days when demanded by breaking news or other editorial responsibilities * Willingness to follow very specific systems and workflow, while also exercising excellent judgment to know when additional measures are needed * Minimum 7 years’ experience in newsgathering and/or production * Experience working in the Boston area with a deep institutional knowledge of the local coverage area. * Strong desire to deliver news as it develops on all platforms * Multimedia experience (video and photos) is desirable * A sense of urgency and desire to learn emerging technologies * Strong journalistic skills * Significant experience in the news environment * Ability to write, edit and produce under heavy deadline pressure without compromising accuracy or credibility * Experience editing content on a desktop editing system * Team player mentality
