About MTS Systems
MTS Systems Corporation is a leading global supplier of test systems and industrial position sensors. The Company's testing hardware and software solutions help customers accelerate and improve their design, development, and manufacturing processes and are used for determining the mechanical behavior of materials, products, and structures. MTS' high-performance position sensors provide controls for a variety of industrial and vehicular applications.
Summary
Mechanical Design Engineer-Transducers From ripping wings off commercial airliners, pushing Formula 1 racecars to their limits, to shaking full-sized buildings on earthquake simulators, MTS conceptualizes, designs and builds test systems that achieve our customer’s needs. You may not know us, but you certainly know our customers. They build rockets for outer space programs, they build wind turbines for tomorrow’s green energy, they make the cars you drive, the planes you fly, and produce jet engines that operate reliably in the most punishing conditions. Industry leaders come to MTS because we help them solve complex problems, offer the best test equipment in the marketplace and because of our engineering strength. Imagine being part of a collaborative team of experienced engineers and technicians who work on highly technical projects. As a Mechanical Design Engineer -Transducers you will gather requirements, conceptualize an electromechanical solution, analyze sensor, test gaged mockups and deliver a complete sensor solution. MTS recently delivered sensors that withstand full scale loads of a car yet so sensitive it detects two nickels placed on the hood. This is a unique ME role where a good understanding of systems, materials, stress/strain theory, electrical circuits and advanced vibration, FEA and mathematical models are employed. MTS’s Transducer Engineering Team supports all industrial markets at MTS including aeronautical, marine, automotive, biomedical, civil and military applications.
Responsibilities
- Gather and review design requirements as it pertains to the overall system - Apply basic engineering principles, numerical modeling to conceptualize a sensor solution - Study structural, material and thermal behaviors and dynamic analysis to refine design - Build and evaluate prototype sensors for proof of concept tests - Monitor and engage (as req'd) with machining, heat treatment and gaging efforts - Monitor and engage (as req'd) with calibration, assembly and system operations - Serve a lead ME role for projects that range from $100k - $32M in price - Opportunity exists for installation support travel
Ideal Candidate
- BS-Mechanical Engineering is required and MS-Mechanical Engineering is desired. - Demonstrated applied knowledge of vibration theory, structural mechanics, failure analysis of materials, fatigue, fracture, heat transfer and basic electrical circuit theory. - Good metallurgical knowledge of ferrous and non-ferrous materials desired. - Knowledge in the application of Finite Element Analysis (FEA), vibration analysis and simulation tools, such as ANSYS, MATLAB and MathCAD desired. - Knowledge of the following items is desired: machining operations, adhesives, heat treatment, strain gage theory and application. - Knowledge and experience with Geometric dimensioning and tolerancing is desired. - Knowledge of test instrumentation, signal conditioning, calibration, experimental data analysis and report generation desired. - Excellent interpersonal skills, written and oral communication skills.
