Database Engineer

In this role you will work within the Technical Operations team to support the production operation environment and provide database support to the development teams for new products and services. You’ll also be working closely with the Sr DBA with automating database services and tools for helping developers interact with the various database systems at Moz.

• Develop and maintain detailed performance and fault monitoring for databases.
• Managing and tuning various stored procedures, queries, tables and related database functions
• Automating database system installations, upgrades and maintenance
• Working with Engineering teams and the Sr DBA to design databases and schemas, evaluate new database technologies, and assist with capacity planning.
• Creation and and upkeep of database system documentation and processes.

Requirements:

• 2+ years with *nix based relational database support (MySQL or PostgreSQL preferred)
• Experience with high traffic and high availability production environments.
• Willingness to learn and master new database technologies.
• Proficient with Scripting (Python, Ruby, Javascript (nodejs), Bash, etc)
• Ability to participate in an on-call rotation.
• Writing and maintaining thorough database systems and maintenance documentation.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related technical field of study or similar work experience

Nice to haves:

• Production knowledge with one or more of the following: MongoDB, InfluxDB, RethinkDB, Riak, or Hadoop/Hbase
• Experience with python, Ansible
