Responsibilities
**Major Responsibilities:** The ESH organization is seeking a highly motivated leader who will guide, influence, and lead Monsanto ESH programs in operational excellence. The ESH Specialist will maintain a strong relationship with business leaders and sites to set strategic direction for ESH processes and programs. The successful candidate will need to be able to adapt quickly to changes in the business and courageously face new challenges to develop, implement, and lead others to address personnel safety and property protection in compliance with EPA, OSHA, and corporate ESH programs. **Responsibilities include:** * The Illinois/Indiana region will have approximately 9 manufacturing and breeding locations * Headcount between 300 and 3000(seasonal) * Facilities operate 365 days per year **Major areas of emphasis include:** * Lead teams, safety professionals, and business leaders through development and delivery of a consistent ESH vision and message of continuous ESH program improvement across sites. * Engage leaders and sites to create key performance indicators and to track metrics to ensure visibility to improve ESH performance and results * Ability to lead ESH technical discussions and oversee development of site safety professionals * Works with sites to oversee the development, implementation and evaluation of site procedures to assure personnel, contractor and facility safety. * Fosters exchange of best practices between groups in the region. * Conducts incident investigations, root cause analysis and trend analysis for incidents and determines corrective action and tracks action to completion. * Works closely with each site on the preparation and management of Monsanto ESH management system (OHSAS 18001/ISO14001) and OSHA’s VPP Star program. * Conducts facility ESH compliance audits, inspections, risk assessments, develops corrective action, and tracks items to completion. Including, preparation of environmental and regulatory permits and reports to ensure regulatory compliance with the operation and construction of air permits, waste management, worker protection, and tier II requirements. * Provides technical and functional support to capital projects, construction activities and site improvement plans.
Ideal Candidate
* BS/MS with 5+ years manufacturing, agricultural, engineering, and/or technical environmental with experience in safety and health compliance. * Position requires strong leadership and excellent communications skills * Demonstrated ability to influence, lead, and develop people and teams * Ability to learn and work with software and other data programs * Team player both within ESH and broadly across multifunctional groups. * General knowledge of OSHA and EPA regulations and Company safety programs. * Position requires 50% travel * CSP Preferred
