Summary
Under general supervision, responsible for maintenance of the District information systems including the research, analysis, design, and prototype of user-friendly technologies and business processes that will enhance and support systems related to use of the student information system.
Responsibilities
Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: - Ensures student and school data integrity by interpreting coded information, identifying errors and miscalculations, and resolving problems using edit reports. - Explains information system procedures and applications for accessing, extracting receiving, and interpreting online reports, files, and District publications to consultants and school and office personnel. - Provides orientation sessions to clerical staff responsible for information records and assists with computer related problems; trains site personnel in new procedures; coordinates the scheduling of computer training sessions for site personnel. - Generates mandated and informational reports at the request of the administration to be submitted to County, State, and federal agencies and interprets student, staff, and school data on topics such as enrollment figures, classroom size, graduation and dropout rates, and teacher qualifications and assignments. - Satisfies daily ad hoc requests for information system data; maintains and administers ad hoc report writing tools for student information system end users; trains and assists users of those ad hoc report writing tools. - Supports the data integrity of the district's information systems by providing initial analysis of breaks in data integrity to determine nature of failure; determines if documented software procedures contributed to the break in data integrity. - Maintains system security by controlling access to the system and assigning codes and passwords. - Conducts needs analysis, design, prototype, pilot, implement, maintain and troubleshoot database. - Evaluates and manages information system technology requests and coordinate those requests with others in the department; provides well-defined requests to the other student information system team members and the IT Applications Director. - Maintains production database instances of the information systems. Install updates and patches on instances for development and testing. Install updates and patches on the SIS Production DB. - Maintains aspects of security and confidentiality of records and information. - Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with students, clients, visitors, and MPS staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment - Enthusiastically promotes the Superintendent's goals and priorities in compliance with all policies and procedures. - Maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, records and MPS information. - Other duties or tasks may be assigned on an as needed basis - At times may be required to work outside normal business hours and work extended hours to accomplish requirements of the position.
Ideal Candidate
**Education, Training and Experience Guidelines** * Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Education, Social Sciences, or a closely related field * Two (2) years of professional experience in database management or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience as determined by Human Resources. **Knowledge of:** - Minnesota Department of Education policies, procedures and standards for accountability programs. - State and Federal regulations governing educational evaluation and assessment programs. - Methods, techniques and current standards used to administer education program databases. - Software applications and operating systems, including Microsoft OS and MAC OS. - Structure and operating capabilities of multiple network operating systems. - Principles and protocols for the management of MPS electronic information. - Principles of public sector bookkeeping, record keeping and records management. - System access policies and data security protocols. **Skill in:** - Compiling and evaluating technical data from computer databases. - Analyzing data from a variety of sources and preparing operational and summary reports. - Interpreting and applying state and local education regulations, standards and policies. - Conducting training classes and providing individual training sessions. - Reviewing documents and extracting relevant information. - Creating and distributing confidential student reports for district staff. - Responding professionally, effectively and efficiently to customer service requests. - Operating a personal computer utilizing specialized software, and entering information into a computer system with speed and accuracy. - Assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands. - Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with co-workers and clients. - Communicating effectively verbally and in writing. **License and Certification Requirements** * A valid Minnesota State Driver’s License may be required. **Physical Demands and Working Environment** * Work is performed in a standard office environment which requires occasionally lifting such articles as file boxes or heavier materials with help from others and/or lifting and carrying light objects frequently. * A job in this category may require walking or standing to a significant degree or may involve sitting most of the time with long periods of computer work and heavy phone usage.
