About Miller Theatre at Columbia University

A leading presenter of new music in New York and one of the most vital forces nationwide for innovative programming, based at Columbia University.

Responsibilities
  • Identifies, cultivates, and solicits donors for gifts to support programmatic activities at Miller Theatre
  • Researches, validates, and meets with new prospects to help determine giving potential and opportunities for engagement
  • Manages the development expense budget and is responsible for meeting annual contributed income targets
  • Responsible for meeting appropriate annual metrics for prospect visits and solicitations as determined in consultation with the Office of Alumni and Development
  • Oversees Miller Theatre’s annual fund campaign, including list development, production and mailing of print pieces, and analysis of results
  • Works to expand Miller Theatre’s donor base, with a particular focus on giving from active ticket buyers and subscribers, in close consultation with the Director of Marketing and Outreach
  • Oversees planning and implementation of Miller Theatre’s Advisory Committee meetings and special events, including the annual spring benefit party
  • Attends events which facilitate contact with prospects and manages relationships to enhance continued and increased support
  • Prepares written prospect summaries and solicitation materials
  • Ensures maintenance of all records in Advance database in a timely fashion
  • Prepare detailed reporting to aid in the evaluation of events and programs
Ideal Candidate

Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent required. Three to five years’ related experience is required, as is demonstrated experience in soliciting individual gifts and increasing donor participation. A commitment to fundraising for the arts, an interest in Miller Theatre’s programming, and the ability to articulate a compelling case for support is extremely important. A high level of energy, initiative, and creativity is essential, as is the ability to handle multiple projects independently in a fast-paced environment with strong attention to detail. Excellent writing and communication skills, tact, sensitivity, and judgment are required. Donor management database and Microsoft Office applications (especially Excel) experience is required.
