Art Director - Shape

The Shape Art Director is a liaison between the Creative Director and Editors, the Photo team, and Production).

• Responsible for page layouts produced under direction from CD and approval by the Editor-in-Chief in accordance to the production schedule.
• Designing all sections of the magazine and administering assignments to design team.
• May attend and art direct photo shoots and offer creative input for photo assignments and page concepts.
• Maintains evolution of InDesign templates, styles, and libraries.
• Monitors page routing through production stages and works closely with Production Director and Managing Editor to keep schedule on target.
• Enforces adherence to graphic consistency across all pages.

Education:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Art or related field, or equivalent training and/or experience.

Experience:

• Minimum of seven years experience at a consumer magazine.

• Sophisticated sense of design, photography, and typography
• Broad knowledge of photographers and illustrators
• Photo shoot experience
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Strong organizational and time-management skills
• Ability to work in well in a deadline-driven, collaborative environment
• Strong attention to detail
• Strong interest in content matter (kids, home, craft, food)
• Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, Woodwing
• Web/Interactive Design experience a plus
• Strong leadership skills
