Summary
Provides direct patient care to all patient populations; excluding pediatrics. Addresses the psychosocial, physical and general aspects of care related to the surgical environment. Communicates with the physician continuously and as needed about patient condition. Assists with the maintenance of equipment and inventory. Assesses procedure room for equipment functioning and readiness. Obtains supplies for individual cases and ensures all appropriate needs of the EP, Specials, and Cardiac Cath Lab team are met. Monitors, positions and assists patient during procedure. Participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.
Responsibilities
* Responsible for admitting, recovering and discharging of patients from the Cardiac Cath Lab. Provides follow-up. * Demonstrates the ability to handle emergency situations during high risk procedures * Identifies physical symptoms and changes and takes appropriate action in a timely manner. * Demonstrates the ability to assess cardiorespiratory systems for changes in adult to geriatric patients and is able to treat appropriately * Observes behavioral and physiologic changes due to medications; takes appropriate actions and documents * Demonstrates competence in preparing and cleaning of procedure rooms before and between cases and after terminal care. * Demonstrates thorough knowledge of location, care and operation of all Cardiac Cath Lab equipment. * Monitors the patient at all times; does not leave the room unnecessarily * Documents patient data during the procedure (heart rate, blood pressure, respirations, all pressures, O2 saturation, EKG). Maintains procedure records. * Ensures preop checklist is complete (H&P present, informed consent signed, test results present, prosthesis/dentures, contacts/glasses) before patient is taken into procedure room. * Starts IVs; monitors IV fluids and patency of IVs * Moves and transports patients safely. * Counts narcotics at beginning and end of each shift with another RN per facility policy and procedure. * Demonstrates the ability to educate patients and their families.
Ideal Candidate
