Summary
Under the direction of the Licensed Nurse, performs tasks and activities related to patient care to an assigned group of patients. Provide care for patients in accordance with age specific needs; provide care in accordance with any identifiable cultural diversity needs (such as religions, lifestyles, beliefs, physical capabilities, and cultures); provide care for patients by assuring effective pain interventions as allowed by their work certification; report and assist any patient that presents with evidence of abuse and/or neglect; and supports the mission of Mercy. Co-workers are expected to abide by Mercy's safety and infection control policies to maintain a safe environment for patients and co-workers.
Responsibilities
* **PATIENT CARE:** * Demonstrates competency in providing fundamental care to patients. Obtains patient vital signs and reports any abnormalities to the patient's nurse and/or Team Leader/Charge Nurse. * Responds to call lights promptly. * **PATIENT SAFETY:** * Demonstrates compliance by completing patient safety rounds and reporting any issues to the Team Leader/Charge Nurse. * **DOCUMENTATION:** * Documents care given as appropriate. Documents vital signs, intake and output, CBGs, height, weight and Foley care. * Delivers meals/snacks and documents percent consumed. * Collects meal trays. * **CONTINUOUS QUALITY IMPROVEMENT:** * Demonstrates commitment to quality patient care. * **COMMUNICATION:** * Maintains effective communication through appropriate utilization of the chain of communication. * Notifies Team Leader/Charge Nurse of any changes in patient condition. * **RESOURCE UTILIZATION:** * Demonstrates appropriate use of time and resources. * **PROFESSIONALISM/PERSONAL GROWTH:** * Demonstrates responsibility and accountability in the growth and development of self and others. * Takes responsibility for reading and understanding posted memo's, minutes, and communications. * **ENVIRONMENTAL SAFETY:** * Maintains a clean, safe environment for patients, families, and coworkers by following established guidelines. * Performs other duties as assigned or requested.
Ideal Candidate
*Education:* High school diploma or equivalent required. *Licensure:* Current certification by the Arkansas Office of Long Term Care for nurse's aide training or nursing student that has finished first semester of RN clinical training or LPN student that has finished first semester of training. (Applicant must provide documentation from school that the first semester has been completed or present a CNA certification at time of application.) *Experience:* Entry level. *Certifications:* CPR. *Other:* Regular attendance on the job during the required hours, including being on time for the start of required shift is essential. The nurse extern must work at least 16 hours per month to maintain employment.
