Primary activities include, but are not limited to:
- The Senior Scientist is responsible for enabling the business to maximize its technology investment to realize business outcomes.
- Support relationship and demand management with the antibody lead generation and protein production groups
- Document current and future state business process and information flow maps
- Is a subject matter expert as it relates to client business processes and the current business environment in which they operate in, and initiate improvements,
- Once the need for a solution is identified:
- Maintain the business case as it evolves
- Develop detailed functional requirement specification from high level business concepts
- Develop solution alternatives for business requirements and ensure alignment with IT Architecture
- Contribute to MERCK SDLC Deliverables
- Manage client and partner relationship through the project
- Planning for benefits and how they will be measured
- Understand and be able to navigate Merck's IT function, including engagement of solution delivery and other services
- Ensure business continuity, via properly addressing issues that affect running the business day-to-day and also as new solutions are deployed
Qualifications
Education:
- PhD in Bioinformatics, Biological Sciences or similar field with 2 years’ experience or a Bachelor's Degree or Masters with 7 years’ experience
Required:
- Knowledge of and experience with key wet lab technologies used to generate, screen and produce antibodies in a biotechnology/pharma setting
- Knowledge of and experience with in silico tools and standards used in the analysis of antibody sequences
- Ability to develop and articulate a plan of action, whether in support of strategy development or planning a roadmap. This plan must be clear, compelling and understandable, and flow in a logical fashion with supporting rationale as appropriate.
- Must be able to explain complex scientific concepts/needs to IT specialists and relevant technical concepts to scientists
- Demonstrated success in building positive and productive collaborative relationships with scientists and IT professionals
- Technical understanding of application architecture including servers, databases, and application interfaces
- Ability to succeed in a matrixed and geographically diverse work environment
- Ability to interface and influence at multiple organization levels and ability to tailor communication to audience
Preferred:
- Demonstrated requirements gathering skills through development of use cases and other methods and skills used in business analysis such as negotiation, decision making / trade off analysis, and problem solving skills
- Process mapping experience
- Project management experience (excluding financial systems)
- Experience with SDLC or equivalent
- Understand of data flow relationships and experience with driving data stewardship initiatives
- Change management skills
- Experience in SharePoint configuration
- Facilitative leadership skills
- Able to identify risks and appropriately manage through them
