Summary
The Merck Early Discovery Neuroscience team is seeking a talented and motivated in-vivo scientist with a strong background in Neuroscience to join our Boston-based team to support the identification and validation of novel targets to treat CNS diseases including neurodegenerative disease such as Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease. Candidates should be able to work independently, but will be expected to collaborate proactively and effectively with colleagues across disciplines. Primary responsibilities include basic experimental design and execution of in vivo experiments and processing of tissues and fluids for biomarker analysis. The successful candidate will have demonstrated effective teamwork and an ability to work in exploratory biology on target identification and validation projects. Responsibilities
* Design, execute and perform data analysis and report in vivo neuroscience study results. * Assist in developing new assays, models, protocols and methods. * Both oral and written communication of data in a clear and concise manner to the appropriate teams and stakeholders. * Write and amend animal procedure statements. * Monitor and review published work to guide internal research. * Propose and assist in validating novel targets. * Collaborate with members from other functional areas, including medicinal chemistry, in vivo and in vitro pharmacology, imaging, genetics and translational sciences. * Work with external academic, biotechnology, and contract research organizations.
Ideal Candidate
**Education:** BS/BA degree with a minimum 10 years of industry or academia experience; or an MS degree with a minimum of 10 years of industry or academia experience or a PhD with minimum 4 years post-doctoral experience preferably in neuroscience or a related subject area. **Required:** * Demonstrated ability to thrive in a team environment. * Experience in small animal handling as well as drug formulation, dosing and tissue sampling (CSF collection, perfusions, blood and tissue collection). * Experience with rodent stereotaxic surgeries * Experience with behavioral assays in rodents * Established record of innovative thinking to champion new ideas and solve problems. * Strong data analysis skills including a practical knowledge of statistics. * Excellent oral and written communication skills, including preparation of study reports, presentations and manuscripts for publication in peer reviewed scientific journals. **Preferred:** * Experience with in vitro techniques including biochemical and molecular approaches. * Experience with in vivo microdialysis, ICV infusion/injections, mouse CSF collection. * Experience with flow cytometry. * Experience with microtomy and immunohistochemistry.
