NorthWest Congenital Heart Care (an affiliate of Pediatrix Medical Group), the nation's largest provider of neonatal and maternal-fetal physician sub specialty services, has an exciting opportunity available for a full-time Licensed Practical Nurse at our Cardiology Practice. The associate would be working primarily in our Tacoma office. The LPN provides direct patient care and works with other members of the healthcare team to provide comprehensive care to infants, toddlers, adolescents, and young adults with congenital or acquired heart disease.
Check in patients to include the following:
- Height
- Weight
- 12 Lead ECG
- Blood Pressures
- Heart Rate
- Respiratory Rate
- O2 saturation
- Brief history—medical and social
Other technical responsibilities:
- Holter Monitor/Event Monitor hookups
- Downloading Holter monitor to computer system
- Assisting with pacemaker checks
- PT/INR
- Assisting in the cardiopulmonary exercise lab
- Assisting other team members with patients when needed with bubbles/toys/distractions
- Direct patients to x-ray
- Monitoring and restocking supplies
- Sport Clearance documentation
Parent teaching:
- Medication doses—frequency and dispensing
- Antibiotic prophylaxis
- General signs and symptoms
- Preventive Cardiology education including exercise and nutrition
Phone calls from parents/pharmacies/physician offices/hospitals:
- Prescription refills
- Phone triage for signs and symptoms
- PT/INR reports from outside institutions
- Care plans with school nurses
Social responsibilities:
- Communicate clearly with physicians and co-workers
- Assist front office staff with answering the phones/checking in patients
- Work independently/take initiative
- Instill enthusiasm
- Inspire co-workers
- Be a team player and have fun
- Education Level: LPN state license required.
- Experience Years: 1+ years experience in pediatric nursing in office environment preferred.
- Experience Industry: Healthcare
- Must maintain CPR certification.
- Ability to function effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment.
- Compassion for the patients and their families.
- Quick decision-making and problem-solving skills.
