Summary
The Senior Oracle DBA has vast potential to go wide and deep spanning a number of different areas. At the core of our system is a transactional, enterprise database where performance is expected and integrity demanded. As the needs of our customers continue to grow and evolve, so too does our database. The size and complexity of assets that are orchestrated by the database result in many opportunities to build new and refactor existing data models and developing queries that guarantee accurate answers expeditiously. However, that is only half of the story. Each of our hosted environments also have a data warehouse that is populated via ETL processes that transform the transactional model into one optimized for reporting and analytics. Customers consider the data warehouse a business intelligence asset and it has become mission critical. We’ve only scratched the surface of what our large data warehouses can provide from a big data perspective. In this role, you will have the opportunity to grow with us as we continue to realize the value of this asset. The Senior DBA will consult with development teams to build logical data models that support new business needs, work on feature teams to build new functionality that leverages PL/SQL to interact with the transactional database, enhance our ETL processes to do more, faster and work with internal and external customers to get the most out of the data warehouse. This represents a small subset of the opportunities you will have to grow and explore in this role. Success will depend as much on how you work as what you do. You must have strong, fundamental work management skills and passion with the social ability to adapt to the needs of the individuals you will interact with. Responsibilities
* Actively participates in cross-functional feature teams, which may include Architecture, Development, Quality Assurance, Product Management, Project Management, and Hosting Infrastructure & Operations team members * Participates in product design reviews and recommends design improvements or corrections * Provides leadership by identifying and articulating problems, then finding solutions and driving them to conclusion * Identifies opportunities to improve current processes, and communicates suggestions for improvement * Acts as the Development lead for PL/SQL centric features * Provides guidance to developers for logical data modeling for both OLTP and OLAP, then implements the logical database structures * Designs, develops and tunes PL/SQL in our high volume database environment, with an emphasis on ETL quality and performance * Analyzes and resolves complex technical issues for Tier 3 Production Support of Oracle databases and PL/SQL in support of ETL batch processes * Communicates effectively with business leaders project progress, status and roadblocks * Works with remote teams in different time zones or on different continents * Passionately seeks continuous process improvement * Thinks critically with the ability to assess and recommend changes to the status quo or new ways of working smarter
Ideal Candidate
* 4+ years experience in Oracle database architecture favoring logical, but not excluding physical * 2+ years experience developing large scale, transactional PL/SQL * Experience building and affecting change to multi-tiered, enterprise class software systems * Experience designing and developing high volume, enterprise level Oracle systems * Extensive experience tuning Oracle SQL, PL/SQL and large RDBMS applications and high volume systems * Experience in diverse software engineering methodologies, such as agile, waterfall and iterative * Extensive experience with UNIX command line and shell scripting * Experience with both normalized and dimension logical data modeling * 4+ years database architecture experience. * Willingness to learn, develop, and contribute in a fun, fast-paced team environment * Energetic and passionate self-starter who brings interpersonal skills and creative problem solving skills to the team * Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to produce communication that is easily consumable by the target audience * Considers success from the team perspective by committing and holding yourself and others accountable * Excellent articulation of thoughts in written communications that are efficiently consumed . * 4-year degree in computer science or related field or equivalent experience - General Office Demands
