Summary
Windward Specialty, a division of Ryan Specialty Group is looking for a Catastrophe Modeling Analyst. Windward Specialty is a highly experienced specialty property underwriter specializing in non-admitted commercial property risks. Windward Specialty's wholesale only approach is based on a technical underwriting framework, built by institutionalizing our experience and knowledge of the specialty property market with effective use of data analytics and catastrophe modeling. This position oversees and leads the catastrophe modeling practice for Windward Specialty.
Responsibilities
* Working closely with the business unit underwriters, performs model based risk analysis of catastrophe exposure using vendor based models (RMS & AIR). * Acts as key resource to assess the catastrophe models underlying assumptions, evaluate modeled output and relate to the financial underwriting model used by the business unit. * Provides support for Exposure Data Analysis, including quality assessment of data. * Communicates and explains modeling results, both at the individual account and portfolio levels, to various audiences including underwriting, actuarial and program management staff. * Manages and oversees Catastrophe Portfolio function, including timely delivery of EDM and other pertinent data to carrier partners and underwriting management. * Oversees the maintenance and updates of the vendor modeling landscape, providing user support and training, testing and deployment of updates, and incorporating version change into the modeling practice for the business unit. * Participates as key stake holder with underwriting management in model testing and validation, helping to define and implement new modeling guidelines and best practices.
Ideal Candidate
* Undergraduate and/or graduate degree in a quantitative discipline such as Economics, Statistics, Math, Actuarial Science and/or Computer Science. * 2 to 5 years related work experience working within a Re/Insurer based catastrophe modeling unit. * Catastrophe risk modeling certifications such as Certified Catastrophe Risk Analyst (CCRA) or Certified Catastrophe Modeler (CCM) is a plus. * Knowledge of the property & casualty insurance market, with a fluid understanding of catastrophe modeling concepts including familiarity with one or more vendor catastrophe models. * Strong computer skills, including strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excess, Access and other relational databases such as SQL Server. * Strong quantitative reasoning and critical thinking, verbal and written communications, organizational and project management skills. * Basic understanding of capital allocation and risk pricing concepts, particularly as each relates to catastrophe modeling.
