Responsibilities
TECHNICAL ASSISTANT, NEUROSCIENCE, McGovern Institute for Brain Research, to join the laboratory of Professor Ann Graybiel whose research focuses on identifying neural mechanisms of learning, decision-making, and action control, with high relevance to clinical disorders such as Parkinson’s disease, Huntington’s disease, autism, and addiction. Will be responsible for performing a wide range of laboratory techniques in histology, neuroanatomy, and some molecular biology, including immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization. Will be a primary resource for these techniques, taking responsibility for complex tasks without direct supervision. Will work as part of a fast-paced team committed to cutting-edge neuroscience research. Other critical techniques to be used include microscopy, including epifluorescence and confocal, and image analysis. Will share responsibility for daily operation of the histology laboratory, including record keeping, organization, and ordering supplies.
Ideal Candidate
**REQUIRED:** a bachelor’s degree, preferably with course work in neuroscience; and a minimum of one year of experience with standard histology, including frozen tissue sectioning. Significant knowledge of and experience in immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence essential. Ability to perform the techniques mentioned above, especially confocal microscopy, is highly desirable. Must also possess excellent organizational and communication skills, initiative, extremely strong attention to detail, the desire to work as part of a team, and the ability to work flexibly in a fast-paced environment.
