About Mashable
Mashable is a media and entertainment company for superfans. We’re not for the casually curious. Our proprietary Velocity technology suite gives us the unique ability to combine creativity with data. Our entertainment series and editorial coverage are smart, clever, ambitious, in-depth and first. We devour culture and tech. Our ideas shape the future and we speak to new influencers -- the early adopters who obsess with us around the globe.
Summary
Mashable is seeking a dynamite, passionate, well-rounded and well-connected reporter to join our team covering the cultural, business -- and, of course, artistic -- aspects of popular music and its diverse personalities. A Los Angeles-based reporter is preferred, though the right person could do the job from New York. Candidates should have strong reporting and writing experience and a track record of telling relevant, resonant and irresistibly hooky music-related stories that Mashable readers will want to share. Besides posting regularly on the daily news, the music reporter will also curate regular album and concert reviews; develop hard-hitting enterprise about the industry's shifting cultural and business dynamics; and be responsible for helping to plan and execute coverage of the Grammy Awards, MTV Video Music Awards, AMAs and other events.
Responsibilities
* Producing a varied mix of content that ranges from 2 to 4 posts per day to more elaborate analytical pieces and longer enterprise. * Travel will be involved, including major music festivals and concert events, as the coverage demands. * Collaborative work with other members of Mashable staff. * Working with Mashable video team to create content.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be interested in many genres, from today's top pop stars to rock 'n roll, country -- even YouTubers. This job requires versatility and a lot of drive, including the ability to wrangle, guide and edit freelancers' contributions. Equally important is a willingness and eagerness to tell stories in ever more creative ways, with images, video and emerging platforms. Above all else, candidates should be interested in telling smart, accessible, shareable and fun music stories. **Must Haves** * 2-4+ years of reporting experience. * Availability to work a flexible schedule, including some nights and weekends, as news demands. * Strong news judgment and keen interest in music and the business. * Understanding of and comfort with content management systems and basic web publishing tools. * An active presence on social media and willingness to experiment with new platforms. * Interest in creative visual storytelling. * Ability to multitask and work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. * Positive attitude and can-do spirit.
