Summary
The Marine Vetting Specialist is responsible for ensuring the proper, timely and accurate processing of all vetting nominations, in accordance with Marathon Petroleum’s Marine Vetting Policy. The position requires a working knowledge of maritime vetting, maritime inspection practices and chartering operations of both ocean going vessels and inland marine barges and towboats.
Responsibilities
- Review vetting nominations for accuracy and completeness - Review USCG PSIX database for past history and any outstanding deficiencies - Review Equasis and Lloyd’s Marine Intelligence databases for vessel and owner history and other relevant information - Verify the validity of USCG Certificate of Responsibility (COFR) and Vessel Response Plan (VRP) - Obtain current SIRE report for the nominated vessels and record relevant data - Review available data to ensure terminal compatibility - Ensure that all data is entered into the Marine Vetting Database in a timely and accurate manner, including links to relevant documents - Request any follow-up documentation from owners and/or third parties - Discuss any concerns regarding acceptability with the Vetting Manager and/or the Marine Vetting team - Communicate the results of the vessel screening to the clients in a timely manner - Coordinate required vessel inspections with the Marine Vetting Team - Assist in management audits of third party vessel operators - Actively participate in team safety meetings and initiatives
Ideal Candidate
- Minimum of three years related experience as an officer in a marine environment, preferably on oil/petroleum tankers or towboats/barges transporting oil/petroleum. In lieu of officer experience, five to ten years of non-officer experience in a related field may be acceptable - Familiarity of US Coast Guard regulations governing vessel inspection, IMO standards and classification society rules - Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite software - Must be able to obtain TWIC Card and pass Drug Screen - Bachelor degree in a maritime discipline preferred - Current merchant marine license/document is preferred
